Re: Tattoo Yachts
...
I think that maybe they should consider doing semicustom work.
obviously the price is higher then a mac was, else they would list it as clearly as Roger did. They are using better resin, rigging...why not let people customise. Wwp offers a bluewater hull layup. How about custom gelcoat colors?
I assume the name change was to shed liability... nothing to sue now, but loosing the old name was also a big hit, since it had alot of recognition. Think about a performance M with the lighter layup of the preposed 22. I would have done the bluewater layup for a grand more, esp if it meant less spiderwedding. Higher quality windows and black awegrip would not add much cost over gelcoat and woulb not fade.
I liked the concept of the original boat, and it has served generations of sailors.but in this time of 565433 celphone models and 54556 kinds of breakfast cereal, people want choices.

Well they are apparently already for sale here in Australia.

Although I'm amazed if the importer has imported a black one here to my local area.

I've seen photos of a real 26. Not a 22.
I'm most curious about the 22 because it is a new model and the 26 is the Mac mold with some improvements.

Re: Tattoo Yachts
Hopefully things are moving forward. Unfortunately for reasons unknown a lot of faithful dealers have been without inventory and income for over a year. In this economy momentum is very important and so far there is none. Moving production to FL and starting over with new staff has to be a difficult issue.

Re: Tattoo Yachts
Went to the Atlanta Boat Show this month and sure enough, from a distance I could see the Tattoo on static display. As we approached the entrance to give them our tickets to get into the show, there she sat, the first boat to see. Unfortunately, reps were no where to be found. Every time I looked at the entrance, there were 3-6 people milling around the boat. Inside, I sought out the reps. One rep took me to another and finally they all decided that one of the reps was more knowledgeable than them all, but he was eating supper somewhere.
As we were leaving and walking past the boat, there were 6 people looking her over. One guy was on the floor underneath checking out the daggerboard. I couldn't help it, I began telling them what a great boat it was and all it could do. Somebody owes me some rep money! At the end my wife finally got me by the hand and led me away. I could have sold at least 3 of them that night. These boats would almost sell themselves if people were aware of all they can do. I was disappointed that none of the reps seemed to have any interest in this great sailboat. I want to see this venture succeed for Tattoo.
I would love to go to a boat show where the boat is featured. I want reps from different companies telling me all about their products that will make my
better, sail faster, more comfortable, safer, shinier, etc... I want to leave broke with a lots of receipts, knowing when spring gets here I have multiple projects for my
to get her ready to sail off on a new adventure. If anyone is aware of a boat show like that, please let me know.

Re: Tattoo Yachts
This IMHO is the problem with the dealer channel model. You're beholden to what the area dealer does. You get a blue water yachts that actually goes to the shows and stands by the boat, great. You get some of the other dealers, well... Not so much. It's a conundrum to be sure because the factory can't do everything, but honestly somebody needs to be standing their explaining the boat.Ixneigh wrote:They need a new sales force then. Re: Tattoo Yachts
I read the post about the Atlanta Boat Show.. So I started there. I went to The Atlanta Boat Show website and looked for a dealer list ( cut and paste off the Atlanta boat show site) Tatoo Yachts Boating Atlanta A 4, B 16
A dealer called Boating Atlanta ( thats one that I do not recall ever hearing about here, but it turns out , its one and the same with Sailing Atlanta registered on this board ) Here is their website http://www.boatingatlanta.net/default.asp see how long it takes you to find a sailboat versus a bass boat. these guys seem to me to be a fishing boat dealer. Maybe thats why no one knew much of anything concerning tattoo sailboats at the Atlanta Boat Show.. They do advertise it on their site..Kind of ... but IMHO poorly so and here is part of what they have to say ..
""Ther're Here! The new Tattoo 26, formerly the MacGregor 26M. Same boat, same family, some new amenities. Roger MacGregor retired from production boat manufacturing but the family business lives on under a new name. Production has moved from California to Stuart Florida. See their website at www.tattooyachts.com. There already is a waiting line so don't get left out. Order now for spring delivery! See one on display at the Atlanta Boat Show, Jan 9 - 12 at the Georgia World Congress Center """

Re: Tattoo Yachts
I sent them an email about attendance to a Houston boat show, which they will not be attending because there isn't a dealer in the area, but they also stated that "we are sold through August", and new dealers wouldn't get boats till then anyway.
That's good for Tattoo, right?

Re: Tattoo Yachts
I have just bought a Tattoo in Western Australia and the dealer will be getting another one in a few months, apparently there was a 6 months stop in production and therefore backlog in orders.
The dealers in the East coast of Australia (3000km away) have also started receiving theirs ~November 2013.
Have emailed Laura a few times and she has been helpful. I think it is just a matter of time and perhaps just a slow start.
The Tattoo looks very nice but I will need to :
(1) install a traveler (it has been removed) as while it is only a small one I will be doing some racing at the club and it will be useful in our 15-20kn regular winds.
(2) find a light weight mirror (plastic??) to put where the 26M had the mirror, for some reason it has been removed and I did like the effect as made the area below seem bigger.
(3) the admiral does not like the flimsy door (if you can call it that) for the head, I may have to order an old 26M spare door or have one made up
The new main has increased from 15.8m2 to17.76m2 while the Jib has decreased from 12.08m2 to 11.10m2. The fat head of the main does give a more modern look but in our high winds I may have to reef a bit earlier. I am also considering a North sail with a smaller area and shaped to suit my racing conditions.
Delivery is in about 4 weeks, the dealer is upgrading some of the rigging, putting in the traveler and strengthening the rudders so they don't go wobbly within 12 months.
In the future I would like to see a bowsprit (possibly a BWY one) so that I can fly a gennaker.
Work in progress....

I still have my door that I removed. It's totally useless unless you are a midget. We put up a curtain, so much better and roomier.Andrew2012 wrote: (3) the admiral does not like the flimsy door (if you can call it that) for the head, I may have to order an old 26M spare door or have one made up

I was about to pursue ordering a new table until I found out that the recesses in the fiberglass the table fits into when forming a berth - these are different and the new table will not fit the
without modification to the fiberglass liner or the table. I was bummed
