Tire Pressure Monitoring Systems

Post by Hugh »

Does anyone have experience in TPMS systems for trailers ?
I have a Smarttire system for my teardrop trailer. It gives me peace of mind and realtime info showing Pressure and temp. However they have gone out of the RV/trailer market.
I have found these guys http://www.tpms.ca
Hawkshead. The Talon system seems to be what I would need.
The valve caps are waterproof according to their CS.

Noticed no responses here.....Guess im not the only one who thinks TIPM is one of the worst automotive irritants to come along in the last twenty years. Adds a hundred dollars to the price of every vehicle sold in the USA and pi$$ you off on a weekly basis all because some idiot didn't know how to check his tire pressure.

Gotta be honest, best system I ever found was a careful look in the rear view Mirrors, and a quick stop for a positive check every 50 miles or so (more often if road conditions demand it).

I just came from a 2,400 mile road trip to the Keys from Maryland. Every time I stop for gas or something else (around 200 miles) I walk around the trailer and check with my hand the temperature of the bearings, and visually check straps, tires and bow safety chain. Before heading back I added grease and checked tire pressure again. I carry an air compressor in the car as sometimes it is hard to have access to air at a gas station with the whole rig. I would not bother with TPMS. Now I just need to get the rig ready again for the 1,900 mile road trip to the 2014 BEER Cruise.

Watch the pressure rating on those. The 14" tires that are common on our trailers have a capacity of 1760 lb at 50 psi.

Kudos to you. When I was in the army (back when vehicles were first invented) we did that once an hour. It's always better to be proactive than reactive. 8)
