Good sailing books

Post by dlandersson »

Since I'm now in the process of putting up Soggy Paws for the winter, the time has come to find other ways to pass the time. :)

The previous thread on books is locked, so I thought I'd start a new one. James Nelson seems to do a very nice job of sorta - military sea stories, especially is you have a kindle. Just finished his "Norse" series - pretty good. http://www.jameslnelson.com/ 8)

Reading A Storm Too Soon. By Michael J Touglad. So far do good based on a real rescue.

Just finished "Captain Courageous" by Rudyard Kipling. Great classic; it has a lot about fishing in the Grand Banks in the late 19th/early 20th century with sailing schooners and dories. The main focus, however, is how the hard work of commercial fishing and sailing builds character in young men. :!:

Fiction: I really enjoyed Tom Wells' "Superior Run". Entertaining, fast read though somewhat predictable.

Historical Fiction: William C. Hammond does an outstanding job of bringing the American Revolution to life in "A Matter of Honor". He takes historical facts and fills in the unknown parts of famous characters' lives with probable story lines. I am currently reading his next book in the series "For Love of Country" which promises to be just as interesting.

Walking along at the Annapolis boat show last weekend...

Me: "hey there is bob over there"

kate: "who?" "what?"

5 second pause from her, then a fit of giggles. "Oh we have to meet him"

So we went over and shook his hand and said hi :D
