Putting numbers and sticker on dinghy

Post by ris »

Some one let me know how you put numbers and the state sticker on a blow up dinghy? Mine only lasted 3 inflations before they fell off. All ideas would be appreciated. Thanks

While technically not legal here in PA I use # boards that I zip tie to the gunnels of my cedar strip canoe. Never had a problem with fish & boat They have only remarked how beautiful my canoe is and how they wouldn't put stickers on it either.

Do you have to register a canoe?

I don't know about stickers on a rubber boat. Maybe cut out vinyl numbers and glue them on with some kind of adhesive for rubber.

My first choice would be stencils and some paint.

The admiral did ours with a permanent marker, using stencils,
The boat see little use, but still not too bad after 2 years.
It will be easy to re-do when it starts to fade.

Yes if you want to use PA fish & boat access ramps , State parks or run an electric or gas motor. The Law states that boats should be registered for the place of waters of principal use but how do I prove my canoe has more Canadian river miles than anywhere else!

You could buy above but I just used a piece of plastic molding that goes on the bottom of walls.

West Marine carries a dinghy numbering kit which works reasonably well. You mail in your registration numbers and receive back a pair of flexiblle panels with the numbers printed on them, along with a place for the registration stickeer.
WM sells a special adhesive, designed for attaching the panels to inflatables. It's important to meticulously follow instructions, but the setup works fairly well and it looks good.

The best solution I found and applied was to get templates and paint the numbers on the dinghy.
WM is selling special paint and templates for this purpose.

That is what I did. The paint which is used is flexible, and has stayed on my Hypalon inflatable for years. Keeping registration stickers on has been a problem.

P.S. I see ris is in Frostproof, FL. Where I was this weekend (New Hartford, NY), it was as low as -18F with a wind chill of -35F.

You've got to put the stickers on a stainless plate and then screw the plate to the inflatable part...make sure you use stainless screws too.
