Has anyone used Newglass 2 on a boat kept in a slip? I was wondering how durable and resistant it is to abrasion from fenders?
I used Newglass2 on my X three summers ago. I have kept it in a slip ever since. I did not get around to the annual touch up recommended. Yet, I am pleased with the appearance of the boat. It has dulled somewhat as would be expected, but I have not noticed any different wear around the fenders. Here is a recent picture. Note the boat is in central Florida with full sub-tropical sun. There has been no further chaulking and the boat is now 18 years old and has sent 13 of that in this area.
If you want to say something nice about my practice of using the standard "Navy" doubled up mooring lines, you may!
Over the weekend I sanded the boat with 1000 grit, 2000 grit and then 3m compound. I used a Bosch variable speed sander set to the lowest speed. I then polished the boat and waxed it - both with Autoglm car products. Took about 8 hours to do the sides and back. Now looks great. Next job is the deck which will be much more difficult to sand by machine.
Different views I know using Car products but Autoglm recommend that it is ok and my buddy has a 25 year old boat that gleams and he has been using them for 10 years and I followed his recommendation.
How much of the newglass2 do you need for a i was anticipating 4-5 coats at least
If my memory serves me (that was three years ago), I think I ordered two bottles of Newglass2 and one bottle of a cleaner that was sold with it. The applicator comes with the product. I did six coats of every square inch above the water line---sides, transom, cockpit seats and deck, upper deck, forecastle, and hatch covers---and had a little left over for touch up. Plan to do it again in January and try real hard to keep up with the annual touch ups this time.
