Re: Annapolis Boat Show- we're going
I should be heading there today (Friday). Looking at the types of boats and sizes i am going to buy when i get back to Hawaii in JAN. I bought my boat brand new and had it shipped to Hawaii, where i made several videos on youtube. Now i am retiring from the military, and heading back there for a second job. I plan on buying and living on a boat with the family. Will be looking at the Beneteau 510 oceanis or the Lagoon Catamarans.

Re: Annapolis Boat Show- we're going
Went to the Annapolis Boat Show today. Since I had a shopping list, we were traversing the entire show, and ended up with no products, but additional questions which need to be pursued. We spent so much time in tents, we did not go on any boats
That was quite OK, we enjoyed ourselves.
We did get to spend some time with Steve & Brandy from The Sailing Rode.

I think most of the northern hemisphere sailors are going into hibernation Highlander, with snow on the ground the mind is far away from balmy summers days, floating around on a lake.
Down here in the southern hemisphere the season has just started to swing into action over the last few weeks, its been on hold a bit due to our unseasonably low temperatures and battering we have taken form low pressure systems that have kept coming across the Great Australian Bight givings us high winds.
All the global warming dooms day warnings tell us that our climate would be turning sub tropical, however we have just had one of the coldest, wettest. windiest 12 months on record, we even have had the heater on almost everyday of spring, that is totally unheard of, normally the heater gets turned off in mid September and wouldnt get used again until April

If you've already bored of retirement, I'll fill you in on this soap opera.
I went to the show looking for an: (a) AIS radio, (b) AIS chart plotter, (c) voltmeter.
I could not find anyone at the show for neither the chart plotter or radio. I know, this sound far fetched, yet true. I did find one of the two voltmeters I was interested in. The fellow at the booth advised against getting it at that time because (a) he did not think it would work with the way my batteries are hooked up (with a rotary switch for determining which battery to draw power from), (b) he did not even believe that my Honda 50 could even fully charge my AGM batteries. So I left with nothing but otherwise memories of a nice day with my wife.
I have since been conversing with both Chinook, and Todd from BWY about this, and have now purchased the radio and chart plotter. I will eventually get a voltmeter also. I am currently addressing that problem.

Re: Annapolis Boat Show- we're going
Our local boat show does not even have a sailboat on display, seems boat manufacturers have decided to give it a miss.
Basicly, if you dont have a power boat and want to fish or water ski etc behind it then ther is best part of nothing for you at the boat show.
Back in the good old days Melbourne used to be the manufacturing center for at least a dozen different boat builders building trailer sailors, I think there is one left and they only build on demand and of course the cost involved in building one offs is totally prohibitive . I remember going to the boat show 30 plus years ago and ohhing and ahhhing at all the beautiful sailboats
Many have had a go at building trailer sailors, but they want stupid money for each boat by the time the manufacturer makes his mark up and then the dealer marks that up again at 100%, alas they dont sell many and quickly go to the wall for lack of cash flow and the market for $75,000, 25 foot boats is VERY limited

Re: Annapolis Boat Show- we're going
Mike,
Around here (Mid Atlantic, East Coast, U.S.), I stopped going to a show if they only advertise as a “Boat Show.” The Annapolis show is different. The show is an “in water” show which last two weeks. The first week is strictly sail. The second week is strictly power. I came away from the show without toys, but we still had a great time. There were some amazing boats there.
