Nope!
ra·tion·al·ize
ˈraSHənlˌīz,ˈraSHnəˌlīz/
verb
gerund or present participle: rationalizing
1.
attempt to explain or justify (one's own or another's behavior or attitude) with logical, plausible reasons, even if these are not true or appropriate.
"she couldn't rationalize her urge to return to the cottage"
synonyms: justify, explain, explain away, account for, defend, vindicate, excuse
"he tried to rationalize his behavior
"

Just stating the fact. I neither need, nor care if anyone else agrees. As I have said before, a good example of the 3SW Rule. Some Will. Some Won't. So What :D

:D :) :( :o :? I have never been called rational before

Lets just agree to say I'm looking at things from a different perspective and put some value on none measurable things or soft value as the new age people may describe it

The boat was designed to be on a trailer. It's the whole point of the water ballast hollow keel DB. If the boat is to be in the water all the time a lead keel would be better.
Rationalizing keeping a trailer boat in the water.

And that's precisely where it is as I tow it to lakes in the US and Canada, and to Cape Cod this summer. The rest of the sailing season, it's in a slip, where I can get on it and hang, or go for a quick sail with two minutes of prep time (plugging in the yacht ensign onna stick, uncovering the helm and starting the OB, and stowing the hatchboard is basically all I have to do).

But it does live on its trailer in the winter, covered by a tarp, and about 100 inches of snow over the course of the winter.

As to the money, I'll get some portion of the purchase price back when I (or my estate) sell it, but the rest is money poured into a hole in the water. But so is going to Disney World (though I could bring back a Mickey ears hat). Or a cruise (not interested). Or I could sit on the couch and watch the toob. But life is too short for that, so I'll stick with throwing money into the hole in the water, while getting my jollies piloting my motor-sailor, and sometimes even hanging with other Mac sailors (MMOR - and here, even :D ), while enjoying a summer beverage. Priceless. 8)

I had a keel boat. It too lived in the water in the summer too, but I couldn't float it onto a trailer (not one I could tow, at least) and go anywhere as it's much slower than being towed on a highway, and I can't put that much time into the travel portion with nothing left to just 'be there' and see the sights. So I sold it. And got a trailerable boat. Now I can boat in all kinds of places that were previously too far away, or completely inaccessible. Like the Finger Lakes. And Lake Simcoe (TrentSevern maybe?) With a crane at each end to step/unstep the mast. No thanks. 8)

Did I also mention I couldnt get my X up my driveway for love nor money, number 1 its too steep to reverse the boat into and number 2 my street is only about 15 feet wide, so getting the boat in would be if not mission impossible at least mission a real pain in the a$$ at best

Not to mention the other 5 boats I already have on my front lawn and camper van in the driveway

Who cares if it's stored on the trl in ur driveway, on ur trl on the hard somewhere or slipped or moored on the water
What matters is that u, family & friends r enjoying the boat to the best of ur ability when time allows u too
Just saying that's all

Just as I said - I can understand berth/slip/hard stand storage for those who are interested in one mostly sailing area, can't store at home/have issues with tow vehicles or towing.

I have acres of room at home, am interested in sailing/motoring in different waters, have a turbo diesel that is fairly economical and am happy to tow so my boats are on their trailers at home.

It is really a non argument it's horses for courses.

I met a :macm: owner who keeps her in a berth in a shallow sailing area - he doesn't even use his trailer now to get her antifouled as the boatyard he uses puts boats on a paint covered yard trailer anyway.......

Mark !
No U need to rationalize ,
some people like their egg,s boiled , some like them fried , some like them scrambled , some like them mashed in a cup with butter , some like them poached , some like them raw , some like them as an omelette or in some other way & there r some who just don,t like them at all !
Bottom line the Rooster laid the Hen the Hen laid the Egg then the egg hatched ! & the chicken met her/his new partner & They went on to Decide their Future " Not U "

Just Sayin That,s All

That would mean that the opposite view is totally irrational, eg. makes no good sense

I can go along with that :D

Well I think it makes no sense to keep debating the way/place we keep our Mac's. Because it's a personal/subjective thing that comes from our current circumstances and our past experiences. No choice is right for all .... Except the choice of owning a Mac 8)

AND THAT RE-HIJACKS THIS THREAD RIGHT BACK TO WHERE IT STARTED!! :D
