Rewiring lighting on 26D?

Post by sebastien18 »

The wiring on my 26D needs to be replaced as the insulation has cracked and fallen off in sections. What's the best way to rewire the mast and other lighting?

Where possible, use the old wire to pull thru the new wire. Some routes may have multiple bends requiring pulling one straight at a time. If there are hole caps on the cabin ceiling, they can be removed to help with routing. An electricians fish tape is a worthwhile tool to have for this.

When I rewired my boat, one run along the side would not pull out. I ended up drilling a fist-size hole in the side liner and discovered that the factory ran the original wires to be sandwiched between the hull and the chainplate!

This job is not measured in time but rather # of cans consumed. It's helpful to know some of the magic words too!

Here is a link where you can find info on how I wired the mast and it has eliminated all of the wire slapping inside the mast at anchor...

Since then I found the fuses shown above they are easy to use at the battery and are not that expensive.

They also have a two post/fuse one if that is needed. I used one on the Endeavour with two different size fuses for two different circuits.

One should have a fuse at the battery. Code now calls for it and it is just a very smart move to make. They go right on the battery so you can install one in minutes with your existing wiring,
