Macgregor (Venture) 21' Sails? (First Time Sailboat Owner)

Post by mdwest8 »

I recently traded for a 1970 Macgregor 21 (Believe it was called a Venture in that model year). Unfortunately, when I arrived to make the trade, the owner had lost the sails. Given the drive, and the deal, I still traded, but now I need to find sails, and I'm trying to do it on the cheap if possible? I would love to get ahold of an old set from someone who upgraded sails (just so I can get out on the water and practice sailing) but I don't know how specific I need to be in finding the right size sails, and if I do need to be specific, what the specs I need are?

Thank you in advance for any help!

These are the dimensions posted online.

Main - Luf 21'10" Leech 23'4" Foot 9'9

Jib genoa Luff 24.0" Leech 23.0 Foot 12.3 & jib 20'0" 16'9" 7'1

Basically any used main with a luff of 21-22" and a foot of 9-10' and a jib of a luff 20-24' and foot 7-12' will work to begin with. You do not need macgregor specific sails.

Keep an eye on ebay and you should be able to find them for around $100 each if you are not in a hurry.

Good luck and welcome aboard!
