Re: Forestay Turnbuckle - Swaging
You need to get your hands on a swaging tool to do it. Each fitting size requires an appropriate jaw size or tool size. If you aren't pretty familiar with it, it would be better to take it somewhere and get it done. I might try rigging something up in my press to do a lifeline, but I wouldn't take a chance on a forestay. You've got to have several places around you that could do it - since you live over there in paradise!
West Marine is the closest place that can do it over here on my side of the bay. Most of the boat yards can probably do it too.

Noooo, most of those have a warning ou them about using them for rigging.kurz wrote:how about this fittings that you can srew on your cable?

The normal price of a swage is between $5 and $10, per swage, the question you have to ask yourself is, "Is it worth risking $2000 in spars PLUS the potential injury or worse that could occur to yourself or family to save $10"
The answer in my book is a resounding NO, not being melodramatic here but the consequences FAR outweigh the costs

I have a swagging device, but I think this was only for Nico Crimps? I have never seen anyone use these? I thought these required barrel swaging devices - like the kerney.
Do you know of any place that does this?

Re: Forestay Turnbuckle - Swaging
yeah, have since learned cannot be done without roll-press swaging device like Kearney - they are only a few K.
I'll run to the rigger 30 or so miles away.

You could try Fairhope Boat Co. They are on your side of the pond near fly creek marina if I remember correctly.
There may be some closer to you. I think Turner would be where I’d look on this side if I needed help.
Sorry so long getting back to you. Had to attend a social engagement.

BWY sells both the standard 1/8” and a heavier 5/32” forestay for the X, in case you weren’t aware. With roller swaged stud fitting for the turnbuckle inside the furler.

Re: Forestay Turnbuckle - Swaging
here they sell fitting you can do at home. They say it's save like the professional ones:

Never dit so far, but the price is high...
Do not know if you can reuse them later with a new cable?
