Box measurements for the X rear berth?

We never use the X rear berth for anything but storage.

Can anyone suggest the measurements for a plastic box (or whatever) to fit in there?

It would be a huge box!! The aft berth is about the size of a king size bed !!!

There is about 16" clearance between the cushion and the bottom of the cockpit in the aft berth. That will be your limiting factor if you want to be able to move the box under the cockpit.

Now, back to buttoning up the boat and getting everything else ready for "Elsa's" arrival tomorrow.

I bought a few of these plastic storage bins. They fit nicely under the cockpit.

I've seen where people tie them together with short peices of rope to make a 'loop' of boxes that can be shifted without the need to go spelunking back toward the transom or pull out all the boxes in front to get to the ones in the back. You just pull a box on one side of the loop and push a box on the other side and the all boxes shift around. That seems like a good idea to me, although I've never tried it. I have one side of my aft berth set up as a berth so the area remaining for storage isn't wide enough for a loop of boxes to move freely.

One thing I did that worked pretty well was put a hanging rod in the small area behind the head. It provides hanging space for some wet weather gear and a few shirts in a space that is otherwise not well utilized. I first tried one of those spring tension rods but the spring enough to keep it from falling down while trailering. I then mounted two of those plastic closet pole sockets at either end of it. There's a lot of room under the cockpit, but making it usable is a challenge.

Another idea that we use are the 6” and 8” tall under bed boxes that we stack on each other three high.
The sides and lids are clear so we can see at a glance what’s inside.
The length and width make it easy to make sub compartments using cardboard or shoe boxes.
We feel it makes it a lot easier to find things without having to rummage through deeper and smaller length & width bulk boxes.

That isn’t to say the bulk boxes don’t have their uses.
We have 3 of them to keep bulk items like sails and extra anchor ropes and some extra fenders.

As we use the V-berth and dinette table conversion for our sleeping needs the aft berth is pretty much dedicated for storage, a mix of storage boxes allows us to tailor to our specific needs.







The ones we got were from Lowes but similar ones can be gotten from HomeDepot, Walmart, etc…

Just an FYI, use 5 boxes. I tried 6, and it's too crowded, so I took one out and it's fine.
