Tail lights on motor or rudder brackets?

Post by ris »

We are trailering the boat from Florida to Glenn Falls NY this summer and want another set of taillights up high not just on the trailer. Have seen some that are mounted on the foot of the outboard and some on the rudder brackets. Have found pictures but wanted some input on these two ideas or even a different idea. Links on how to make the brackets would be especially helpful Have the led lights on hand and the wire should be here in a couple of days. Thanks

Ok Ris
here u r first pic shows the three center cluster red led lights which designates "Long Load"

Image

second pic shows wiring on back of the left tail/signal/brake light this light has the ground wire from the trl connected to it & the alum bar thus now the light bar is totally grounded no need to run all ground wires connections together just attach each ground wire from each light onto the attaching mounting bolts on each light as shown as the mounting bar is now a grounding devise for ur lights

Image

3rd pic shows how 3 center lights r each grounded onto the bar with each ground wire , notice the two power 2 pin connectors for left & right rear light the 2 single pin connectors 1 single pin connector is for power wire for 3 light cluster & the other is the ground connection from the trl ground

Image

forth pic is the light bar

Image

5th & 6th pic is length of my light bar but u can go longer if u wish I just found this adequate for storage & fitted right between my aft stern rail seats for mounting purposes plus it sits on a slightly down ward angle as it is mounted high so it is basically shining down in ur face as u get closer to me can,t Deny seeing it & high enough from rear ended damage unless u r hit with a semi :|

Image

Image

7th pic is width 3"W X 41-1/2"L X 1/8" thick alum flat bar if u go to a metal supermarket ask if they have any cut-offs they usually sell off half price

Image

8th pic light bar

Image

9th [ic 12ft of wiring with 2 pin connector for right tail/signal/brake light

Image

10th pic is 12ft of wiring with 2 pin connector for left tail/signal/brake light & the additional 2 wires with single pin connectors r 13ft 3" for center cluster lights & ground connection

Image
11th & 12th pics r 1/4" hitch pins mounted on top holes & the bottom holes r used for bungie cord mounting to keep the light bar tight & pointing slightly downward

Image

Image

13th pic is wiring on back of left tail/signal/brake light notice also that these tail lights have combined built in side clearance lights

hope this helps I also have a skeg mounted tail light that sit just above the Prop. I bought from Canadian tire a few yrs back on sale of course ,
Oh & I got my LED trl lights on sale 2/3rds off because the reg trl lights were on sale but some poor dumbo sticker priced all the reg trl & led trl lights at the sale price so a peeved off manager sold them to me at 2/3rds off & had all the led lights restickered at the reg price :D :D :D

Highlander thanks for the pics. You mention a bracket that holds a light on the outboard foot, do you have a picture of that bracket?
