Hmmm…. Monitization of a Mac26?… hmmm 🤔 :)

Let’s see…a back of the envelope cost/benefit analysis ….

At fuel per operational hour costing….
Hull insurance broken down to an amortized hourly cost….
Liability insurance broken down to an amortized hourly cost…
Obtaining a commercial maritime operator certification license amortized hourly…
Obtaining USCG vessel certification cost amortized hourly cost…
Local business license amortized hourly cost…
Slip fees amortized hourly cost….
Advertising (hard copy) at local hotels, B&Bs, businesses, restaurants etc. amortized hourly cost…
Web page site, hosting and development amortized hourly…
Adding EPIRBs for all life jackets amortized hourly….
Then there is cost for a crew member onboard by the hour…
Assume the Captain works for free or tips….
Assume for the moment no lawyer fees to deal with legal liability, LLC, waivers etc…
Assume for the moment no cost for business plan generation…
Assume no mortgage costs…
Assume no equipment depreciation or maintenance expenses for the moment….
=============================
The hourly operating costs are…..
Then Divide by 4 paying customers to find the hourly breakeven point….
==============================
And the result is….. :| :| … ???… :o :o:D :D :D :D :D :D
Assume customers are willing to pay the same as they pay per hour for charter fishing boats locally….

Ahhhh…it’s gonna be a hard pass on this one….. :D :D :D :D :D :D … Ah’d be further behind than than Ah am now! :D :D :D :D
While it’s a nice thought it’s gonna be more profitable sitting on deck with the Admiral having a nice glass of Iced Tea!!!

Best Regards

You are forgetting one very important word here:

Mumbai

:D :D :D Yeah, your right, I’m not in Mumbai…
I’m in SC and while the idea of monetization of a Mac26 sounds interesting 🤔 I was looking (tongue in cheek) at what it would take for ‘me’ to do it :D :D :D :D

I’m in the ranks of the “really tired” nowadays and it might have sounded like fun to possibly ‘profit’ from tooling around on the water …. :D :D :D

Yeah there are a lot fewer structures to contend with in Mumbai but you also get what you pay for …. I actually like regulations and licensing and insurance requirement especially for commercial passenger carrying operations.

I just see the humor in the concept of trying to make a ‘dollar’ off of my Mac…even in Mumbai the profitable margins are awfully slim…which 🤔 might explain why it’s no longer being offered :D :D :D at least they tried and ya gotta give ‘em credit for that….

To each their own…

Best Regards

I see the humor in the proposition as well.

I think our intrepid entrepreneur's most significant miscalculation may have been in estimating the demand for the product.

Judging from those successfully running charters here on our little lake, most people are not so much interested in going sailing as they are in experiencing the glamorous aspect of being on a boat for dining, drinking, and dancing. I also imagine one of the main goals is to come away with photos to post on social media.

So...
Dining - whatever "finger foods" you care to bring
Drinking - "is strictly not allowed"
Dancing - possibly, I guess
Photos - sure, but hard to imagine it looking very glamorous.

I can also see the prospect of riding to and fro on a motorboat (of unknown size and seaworthiness), getting on and off the Mac from said motorboat, and eventually being taken out to sea where "You will not be seen from the shore" might be a little more adventurous than your average tourist cares to experience.

My guess is that someone thought they might be able to make a little money from their sailing hobby and decided to send up a trial balloon. I suppose it was worth a try...
