Mystery Canvas

Post by ScottGetter »

Can someone help me figure out the use for this canvas that came with my used MacGregor 26x (98). It is about 12' long and 6' wide with velcro along 3 sides. I thought it was some sort of tent to go over the boom and attach to the life lines but it seems to be too long.

Maybe it goes lengthwise over the boom?

It is considerably longer than the boom so I don't think it would work well like that.

Scott, Questions: 1) Are the Velcro strips all the same gender (do not stick to each other)? 2) Is the Velcro on both 6’ edges and one 12’ edge? If answer to both questions is YES (and there is no opposite gender Velcro stuck anywhere on the Mac) - this item probably does not belong with the Mac. My hypothesis is that it is, or at one time was, a sunshade curtain that hangs from an RV awning. The 12’wide x 6’high is about right for this function. Just my hypothesis.

The velcro on the 6' ends (both sides) have both genders so you could possibly wrap it around a 1.5" pipe. One of the long sides has just the rough portion of velcro. The other long side is just a cut edge with no velcro or even a seam.

I think you have the correct answer. One of the previous owners must have had a use for it on the boat. I will let you know if I figure that out.

Thank you for your help!

Sorry, posted with just one cup of coffee.

Maybe it goes lengthwise over the MAST.

It might be the PO bought it for some other purpose and sold it with the boat.

I wonder if it might become more apparent with the mast up?
I am thinking sun shade or something that fits while rigged in the water?
