Hello
I put some leather on the steering wheel from my
To get it cheap I dit not buy from Yacht Shops but jus ordered a cheap tuck steering leather. This was big enough (it was even to long, I had to shorten it).
As there was a perforation already on the leather I use the wholes for the sewing...
Let's see after some seasons...

Nice work.
What is tuck steering leather? Did we lose something in translation?

sorry, wanted to writ TRUCK! So the leather set comes not from a car but from a TRUCK, so the diameter is bigger. It was so big I had to shorten 20cm

Kurz,
What a great idea.
I did such a steering wheel cover on an SUV I once owned; never thought of doing it on my Mac.

well, I came on this solution, when I saw the price from Yacht shops. The leather set for a
wheel was 130Euros...
So I stayed with 8.50 for the leather set and 7.50 for additional thread...

For outdoor/marine use, the best leather to use is elk hide, preferably tanned grey or white (keeps wheel cool in the sun). Elk hide is weather resistant, doesn't shrink as much as most leathers, and if applied rough-side out it makes a nice soft, but non-slip gripping surface. This is what *very* expensive yachts use, but it ain't cheap. The C&C 36 I used to race had this on the wheel, and I do miss it.

Looks good Kurz.
Azzarac had posted in the Mods section how he used coachwhipping to cover his wheel.
I used that method and although it eventually turned out nicely with a "Turks Head knot"
at 12 o'clock, it was an exercise in frustration.

Of course, my solution is kind of a test. I will see after one season of use. For the price of professional yacht leather I could buy a steering wheel made of wood

Beautiful work guys! All of a sudden, my wheel looks terribly under-dressed.

ok, here I am...
After one season I can say: Works perfect! Leather is in perfect condition. So I hope it will last long...
By the way: One of the benefits of a small wheel... You get faster with the leadher sticking...
