I needed a new trailer as the original was rusted out. I came across a facebook ad for a 26s and trailer for sale in Raleigh. I figured I could buy, take some parts from the boat (stern rail, pop top hatch and forward hatch) that were dodgy on my boat and scrap the boat after removing everything of value. It came with an evinrude 9.9 hp motor as well.

The trailer is a road king trail and sail and looks to be brand new. Everything sat for a long time but I decided to take a chance and drive 6 hours for it.

I got there and I was disappointed to find that it was NOT a 26s but rather a Mac 25. Bummer.

The trailer however was in amazing shape and performed flawlessly on the way back. Lights, hubs and everything in good shape and not a hint of rust.

So now I have to find out if the parts I want from the boat will fit on the 26s. It looks like they have same beam so the stern rail and the swim ladder should work. The mast looks to be in good shape and what research I've done seems to suggest that it's the same length mast at 28 ft.

Anyone know about the pop top hatch? Were they the same dimensions? Or the front hatch?


if masts are the same then the sails for the 25 should work on my 26s yes?

I got this for VERY cheep so I don't think I can do anything but come out ahead but wondering what will fit.

Also, since I have 2 boats now am I a Commodore? :)

Youre definitely the Commodore of a flotilla now.

IS the 25 in good shape?

It's hard to tell the condition of the 25. I would say it's marginal. Lots of rust on the keel. Broken Keel cable and generally very dirty. But everything seems to be there and working. Trying to decided what to do with it.

Got a good look at the boat today. It's a horrorshow. Inside has 4 inches of water. everything mildewed and gross. the outside isn't much better. Sadly, I think this one is headed for landfill after I get the parts I want. Looks like I'll be able to use:

1. Swim Ladder
2. Stern rail (!!!)
3. Mast and boom
4. Sails, if they aren't blown out.
5. Evinrude 9.9 motor that supposedly ran when it was pulled out of the water (2007)
6. some standing rigging hardware for spares
7. Maybe the folding table if I can find a place for it in my boat
8. Possibly some cushions for v-berth but damn they are ugly


The real find is the Trailer. Everything looks brand new. The lights all work. There are no brakes but that won't be an issue and I can always add if I want but I will prolly keep it simple. I've asked Road King for some info but doesn't anyone know what the tubes are underneath the main tube? Also, my 26 is a foot longer and to keep the overhang reasonable I'd like to move the winch post forward a foot. It seems simple to move it. Other than weight distribution concerns, anyone see a problem with that?

Also, I'll prolly need to lower the bunks a bit?

Hi Chumpy36!

Nice find on the trailer! :)
I’d run a mile up wind of any black mold though!!!
I’m not sure even TWO N95 masks and a sealed tyvek bunny suit would be sufficient… bad stuff to mess with.
I’d start with a bleach mist for 24 hours while getting the old water out then repeat followed by an interior pressure wash … maybe 2.

On the trailer your gonna have to get the tongue weight to be at least 10% of the loaded trailer & boat combined weight.
This is really important to avoid fishtailing

That has the crank up keel, so you may want to get that if you can if it’s in good shape. Rudder too.

I would guess storage for a tongue extension. Seems odd though, as the tongue already looks to be about a nautical mile long. Does it retract or something?

Nice trailer there. It appears that the tongue flips 180 degrees to be shorter, for travel, and the configuration it is now in is for launching only. That must be a really wide turn, using that? If the jack is mounted further back in the triangle section behind the winch mount, you could see if you can flip it, but the hitch would require redrilling of course. Also, your receiver may have to be lower perhaps? If Stainless or Galvanized bolts are used it would be no real sweat to do, I say. Might be worth trying anyway. Your turning radius would be substantially reduced and backing a bit easier as well, I say! Contact the company that built the trailer, and ask them if I am correct?

Hi Chumpy36!

A note of general interest is to make sure that you can get sufficient tongue weight if your gonna put a Mac26X or Mac26M or Mac26D
on that trailer vs the size of the boat you are scrapping out. There is a significant weight and CG difference between them.
You should have at least 10% of the combined trailer & (loaded) boat as trailer tongue down force. More is better and less is dangerous for you (and all those you will be sharing the road with when towing… especially on highways as this will result in fishtailing). The last thing you want is your rig to fishtail at speed when it could have been resolved ahead of time.

There are several threads in the trailering and other forum sections on how to check this is your not sure how to accomplish this.
