I believe the fees cover a full year.

The new regulations require AIS transmission for larger yachts. We would be exempt, but we did add a Raymarine AIS700 tranceiver with full transmit capabilities, for the safety aspect.

Starscream, Did you make it to the Bahamas this Winter (still there)? Interested in how your mods worked. With the weather forecast this week - a heater may have been more useful than AC. Closehaul

Sadly, no.... several reasons, the major one being my middle son joined the Coast Guard officer training program, which includes a getting a bachelor's degree in Marine Technology from Cape Breton University. Great for him, but sad to see him leave the house (at 16 years old!!). He was a key driver in the trip and without him we decided we would wait until he graduates and can come with us.

Second reason is the long trip we took last summer: almost a month on the water with 7 on board really highlighted some weaknesses in our setup that I wanted to address. Our systems are fine for our typical trips: a week or so and always within a couple of hours of a marine parts store. I need to robust-ify some systems, and I ran out of time this year. Winter arrived early and I just didn't get the prep done.

Last issue that was maybe the most worrisome was the drive over the appalachians in December and coming back in January. I want to figure out a way where I can get the boat down south in the fall, and leave it there until spring, instead of leaving and returning to this icy wonderland we have here.

The dream is not dead, just delayed. My wife actually suggested recently that just her and I give the Bahamas a shot this summer, as all our kids are going to be out of the house for a big chunk of the summer, for the first time ever. Nice reminder of why I married her lol so awesome. Don't think it'll happen this summer but the suggestion is amazing.

I just spent the weekend with Adventureman Dan from YouTube and he really stoked my enthusiasm for the trip. He's sold his big boat and is MacShopping, and he wanted to see how our 26X was set up. (check out his channel...subscribe to support a future MacTuber.) We had to use a heat gun to get the companionway unthawed but I gave him a good tour: watch for it in 3 weeks or so on his channel.
