Big Dog boat question?
Big Dog boat question?
We have a beautiful 80 pound 6 year old Golden Retriever and wonder how to get her down and back up into the cabin of a 26M? Any ideas?

You can buy ramps off Amazon. I have one for my Lexus SUV. Dog loves to "supervise" any time I'm going someplace.

Re: Big Dog boat question?
We have a 70lb border collie, who is pretty nimble, but the companionway steps underway are a broken leg for the dog waiting to happen. The car ramp is what we've used. It's a darn nuisance to stow. So we've come to the sad conclusion that he's just too big, anxious, and full of energy to be on the boat, other than short trips to (2-3 hours) where we're getting out on a beach or something that allows him to play.
Next dog will be a smaller boat dog.

Hi Wsgambler!
When we bring our daughter’s 60 lb Standard Poodle on our Mac26X it’s a lift and place operation.
She knows not to leap or climb.
Great way to develope those upper body muscles … for my daughter… I like what’s left of my back personally.
The ramp would be the way to go without the daughter on board
I’ve seen some nice light two and three section folding aluminum truck tailgate ramps that could work with some infill panels.
We have a telescoping ladder we carry onboard for beach landing off the bow that would also work with some insert infill panels without too much work that could also carry the weight of an adult human too!
(What’s the point of having a ramp that only the dog can use? Eh?
)
One might even be able to utilize a taught stretched HD canvas stretched over the ladder for infill between the rungs.
It would make natural pockets between the rungs for paws going up & down …. Something for us to think about…
The companionway panel on our Mac26X could also potentially be adapted to have a dual function as part of a ramp system with some modifications.
Great question!
Definitely something to think about that up till now had not considered.
Thank you for bringing it up!
Best Regards
