Slip Cost
Another benefit of the Gemini is the 14 beam fits her into a basic 34 slip. Keep in mind San Diego slip fee prices.....I pay 380 a month. Which is quite good in So Cal.

The plus points about having a Cat is quite good. The bad point is that if it ever turns upside down, it stays that way. In really heavy weather it has happened. However, I would avoid the really heavy weather conditions with any boat. Almost a mute point.
It is good to hear that the wave slaping is not that bad when it is at anchor. I wish I could afford one and have to make a choice.
The way that I fugured the price for a Mac26M at $ 45000 is adding all of the equipment that one would want/need for the extreme sport of costal cruising as a life style. Dingy with 9 hp, GPS chart ploter, custom awning, VHF, portable VHF and GPS, autopilot, custom bed, charts, guide books, food, plus another 500+ other items. This stuff sure adds up. I do think that this is a high figure.
I should point out that I probally do not need this much stuff and could "get buy" with a lot less. Most people do not have this much, but I want this much. IMHO it is much better to have a small boat with a lot of extras, than having a big boat little extras.

James - for coastal cruising fully equipped your 45k number is pretty close imho. You can pare it down a bit by equipping your boat over a oouple years and using ebay at end of season to pick up some of the stuff. Thanks to this board, you can also get an idea of where you can cut corners and save some bucks
I just went with the Plan B tender
Full up Zodiac tender $2000
9 HP tender motor $900
vs Plan B
Sevylor 4 person $230
USed 3 HP 130
Im decent with engines, so I wasnt afraid to pop for a used one.
You cant leave a Sevylor on mooring all season, it will UV rot. It inflates and deflates in under 5 minutes. It also rows decently, so you could even skip the motor if you just need a tender to a mooring a few hundred yards away.
Honey look......PLan B means I can afford my autopilot ........

Don't say this until you've tried it against the wind and/or current. BTDT. You can't row even one of the smaller, higher priced inflatables against even a moderate amount of wind or current. My RU260 dinghy stayed on the foredeck for the entire week my first time to Bimini, for exactly that reason. It also rows decently, so you could even skip the motor if you just need a tender to a mooring a few hundred yards away.
So unless you can figure out how to always be rowing down wind and with the current, you better plan on a motor.
If you actually thinking of buying a 9HP motor for your dinghy, unless really used, you better be prepared to spend way over $900. You also better be prepared to install a crane to get it on and off the dinghy. Even a "lightweight" 2 stroke motor is going to run 80-90 lbs, and there's no way you can wrestle something this big onto your dinghy and back by hand BTDT as well.
