Stay adjustments on X

Post by fran trapp »

Hi,

I bet this has been discussed before-- but Im new and I need guidance on stay adjustments. Mine seem loose. I also have a fair amount of weather on the helm.

Just replaced steering and it is soooo much better-- but still a fair amount of weather on the helm in good winds. Suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks.

2 things:

1) raise the front furler drum to expose the turnbuckle. Collapse the turnbuckle about an inch. That should tilt the mast forward a bit (correcting the weather helm) and also tighten the shrouds. (watch that you dont over stress anything. ALso need to make sure the cotter pins are back in place before letting the furler drum back down.

2) I replaced my side shroud pin adjusters with toggle jaw tunbuckles to permit easy adjustment and tensioning.

You can search for "mast rake" "turnbuckles" and "CDI" to get a lot more info.

The CDI manual is on here soemwhere also I believe or you can go to the CDI site to get any details you might need.

Click the "Featured Articles" button, upper left of your screen. Look for the Rig Tuning Primer summarized by Bruce from the Brion Toss tape Rigger's Apprentice, and includes a valuable step-by-step procedure for adjusting the Mac's standing rig.
