I was forgotten? This old timer rejoiced when the new format was created as it was similar to Sailing Anarchy's where I am known as He Whos Name Should Not Be Mentioned (HWNSNBM) owing to the thread they created for me there. 7 year anilversery with our 1999 Mac26x, Murrelet is on February 14th. New sails, new engine. She has been in salt water all that time, and on the hard only for maintenance. Any oldtimers putting there boats in for the 18th annual BWY Rendezvous?

Tim, I got your PM that you are going to baha instead of Bimini.
I had another PM from the Bimini group that asked if anyone knows of a Baha flotilla.
Could you post info on that flotilla or send PM and I will send it on.
Thanks

I'd also like to know if there's a Baha trip in the works.

Thanks,

The Tucson Sailing Club puts it on in November. Their site is great and looks like they do alot of sailing in Mexican waters. Check out their site.

I cannot claim Old Timer Hash Marks on my sleeve, but your boat and name have been on the board many times. I read you were quite successful with Murrlet in last years BWY Rendezvous and I commend you for your skill at the helm. You mentioned new Sails and a new auxiliary, anything special for a performance-enhanced show in this years race? I wish you luck and Im sure many here would love to hear of your new sail inventory along with some tips on the re-power upgrades.

PS There have been questions as to the weight of sailcloth for new X sails, and many would like to know your power choice related to a successful performance and weight on the transom vs. enhanced motoring.

Thanks Frank

Just checked my profile. It says I joined here in '04. I was sure I had been here longer. Perhaps under another username?
Anyway, I first saw this board back when I was first interested in the 26X. I owned a Catalina 22 @ the time. That was either '95 or '96, when the Xboat first came out, I think. (memory..... second thing to go, forgot what the first thing to go was)

Anyway, I got my '97 Xboat in 1999. Was a avid reader and poster on the old Sailnet 26X board for several years. Don't Remember when I joined it, but remember when F.M. did :? (one reason you'll never se me answer his posts here. The two of us have been down that road. I shall not travel that path with him again). Truce still in effect, eh Frank?

I've been reading and posting on some sailing site now, since about '92. Once in awhile, I still get a hello from one of the Catalina 22 people (from Catalina Direct's forum similar to this one). Seems like my article on gelcoat repair has been here in the "Featured Articles" section for several years now.

BTW, on that note, I talked with Heath last year about a more indepth article, with pictures and now that I have another old boat that needs some repairs, I may be able to publish a more helpful article with some illustration included. My Dboat has a few blisters and some of those little hairline stress cracks, that come with vintage gelcoat, that will make great examples.

In case any of you remember, I once had a website of my own where I, pretty much restored my Catalina 22, inside and out. One of the things you'd remember most about this site would be the pictures of the boat, sitting completely upside down on a rack in my back yard. It made refinnishing the hull so much easier.

Thanks for info on the May 06' Baha cruise Tim. There are 2 cruises in May, are you doing one?
Is the Tuscon Sailing Club a trailer sailing club?
There is a marina in San Carlos where they are leaving for both flotillas.
I wonder if they just leave their boats there or trailer down?

Bob,
They do both ... many folks just keep their trailerboat in San Carlos, many others trail down there. It's supposed to be an excellent road (4-lanes?) and easy drive - I recall maybe it's four hours south of the border. Try browsing the Sea of Cortez website - great wintertime reading!

Newbie, but?

Post by maddmike »

While I am a Newbie here, I was wondering who has the oldest 26X out there that is on the board, same owner from new. Mine was built Oct. 95 and started sailing Nov. '95 in Baja. Would like to chat with any others who have as old a boat, or even older. MM :)

I might be an oldtimer, but I can't remember.
My first 26X was # 84, made in May of '95, I think.
Or, maybe it was # 95, made May 26 of '84.
What is an oldtimer anyway, again?

Thanks Frank, my wife is now excited about going there and it is fairly close to LA. Have you sailed there?
A few questions;
Do you know if there a safe lot to leave car and trailer there while on a 10 day cruise?
How much is Mexican boat insurance on a Mac?
Are there marinas along the way to stay in and buy gas, supplies or is it anchor out?
Thanks

I bought my 96 as soon as it came out that year. I am still enjoying it. I have had it in a slip since a few months after purchase....take it out for conditioning and bottom paint every couple years....I went to the marina last night to charge batteries and take care of that MSD! Watched a movie and had dinner. Great life.......

I have used my boat year round, did break steering cable in 96(arrived messed up and Bill sent me a new one), relplaced throttle cable in 2000....other than that no break downs or breaks.....

The boat is still one of the beauties out there after all these years, can't say the same for me... :D

Sorry Bob, never been there. Spend some hours on that website, plus maybe check w/ the Tuscon group. I've pored over that website in years past, but can't give any first-hand info. From what I recall, I'd have no concerns at all about driving to SC or leaving my rig parked there. It's been described as a little southern corner of the USA with lots of our retirees. Just going by what I've read on their forum, I'd sure like to see it myself someday.
