Blue Hull Paint on 26M--Would you order it?

Post by MacSeeker »

I'm looking to purchase a 26M and I love the look of the blue gelcoat paint on the hull. But I have heard from one dealer that he does not like to sell it because it makes the boat hotter in warm weather and scratches easily leaving not very pretty white scratches that you don't see on the promo video for the boat.
So if were ordering a 26M and didn't care about the extra cost of the paint job--would you get the blue hull? Do you have a blue hull now? Is this concern a valid one? Do blue hulls look crummy after a while and make the boat "hotter"? Or is the dealer looking to sell me a white boat he has in stock right now? Thanks!

It is not paint..it is actual gelcoat...

It is pretty warm in the summer..yes

It scratches VERY easily..just look at it the wrong way and it stratches...

Would I get the Blue hull again...probably.. It just looks sooooooooooooooo nice. I think it looks like a far more expensive boat than it is.

Our boat was delivered in HORRIBLE condition (you can read about it in past threads)...It did clean up nice though.

Here is a pic of our blue hull as it was delivered..virtally the entire blue hull was covered by swirl marks in the gelcoat:

All the pics of our delivery are here: http://home.comcast.net/~testdelete/mac ... index.html

If you DO buy new...INSIST the dealer put a channel in the mast (we did). It is a PITA to do yourself. Someday you might want an anchor lite or mast top antenna.

Here is a pic of our blue hull after a Heavy Duty gelcoat restorer product and wax job:

I would suggest (and did) buy some blue gelcoat for touchups. You will need it.

MacSeeker,

No I wouldn't order the blue gelcoat, nor did I. For exactly the same reasons as you heard.

I think the blue hull looks real nice & classey. No doubt, one would have to be careful to avoid scratches, etc. That would be simple, just keep more fenders on hand and stay off the rocks.

The Blue Mac M is real class :!:

I like the blue, but for the maintenance to keep it looking nice. My dealer said: He was never so enthusiastic to sell boats with a color, after all he said the Clorox bottle is nice, but having a choice gives customers a new perception". Maybe the next year will bring some new colors? White is nice, blue just looks classic. As they are the same hull, I might let color, or lack of it, dictate my choice depending on the level of the Suns heat where you live.

I love to see colors on boat hulls.. blue, green, red, gray, brown... however I would never, never want one again. Too much markes it up. Fresh water or salt water dries and leaves white marks were every drop dried. Sun fades it and it needs constant attention to keep it new looking. I will only have all white boats from now on.

I like the black trim on my X but I don't like the fact it requires a lot more polishing and waxing than the white does to look new.

The blue looks fantastic....I'm too lazy to have it. Just like having too much chrome on the bike....love the look...hate to polish...I love my boat...spend a few minutes most everyday in it doing some type of clean up or straighten up but sure hate to wax....lucky if it gets one or two very unprofessional jobs a year.

I would love to have colored bottom paint. It looks so neat when healing. But since we just trailer...it would be one more thing to take care of.

I'm starting to sound pretty lazy arnt I?

Simple:
Blue Macs are the best looking 26ft boat in the Marina....

Blue Macs are the HARDEST to keep looking nice boats in the Marina...

Your choice....

I had Blue, loved it, and not have a blue hull boat again...maybe I didn't take my own advice...it just looks so damn good!

Blue Hull

Post by Terry »

Yes, the blue hull is high maintenance, I know from experience, every scratch makes me cry. I would likely order it again though, because if maintained it looks real nice.
If one is into it, dressing up the white or blue with accessories really adds to the overall appearance. For the blue hull, royal blue or pacific blue canvas accessories really makes it stand out, pacific blue accessories are more abundant. The blue hull is a bit darker than pacific but lighter than royal so either one looks good, I just find accessories like Davis Sticky Bags, lines, fenders, cushions etc. are usually pacific blue and pacific blue canvas is more common as well so that is my choice, looks real nice all dressed up. There is a white M down the dock from me and the owner has all black canvas accessories (full enclosure), black lines, white lines and black/white striped lines, plus black fenders, black gas tank covers, the works and it really looks great! Black is also high maintenance so either way it is extra work, not to mention expense for accessories. :o

I'm tough on my cars (classic and otherwise) and my boats, too... and as a result I have no time for "trailer queens"... so, no I would not order the blue because I'd invariably have it scratched up in no time at all - or I'd be worried to death that I would. With white, if I bump something, hey, who cares.

The blue color was the deal maker for my lovely bride, hence blue for us! Of course she broke her arm doing yardwork, and polishing that expanse as left to me this spring. She tells my the cast will be off shorlty after comissioning (we keep the boat in a slip) in a couple of weeks.

This is the same lady who wants a matching blue Mini Cooper "S" with white racing stripe and the new Peugeut engine. Ummmm. :)

I'd like to see a pic of that blue mini towing your blue Mac! Would look very cool...but I wouldn't go too far from the driveway.
