Spreader storage while towing.

Post by Jim Bunnell »

OK - this is probably obvious, but when the dealer delivered my used 26M (his demo) by towing 500+ miles, the spreaders were resting on the lifelines. There is no observable damage or bend to the spreaders or the lifeline stanchions , and the pressure on the lifelines seemed fairly light. I know the 26X folk all talk about getting the spreaders under the lines, and various lifeline mods to help do that - but does anyone know if it is really necessary on the 26M?

I loosen my lifelines before I drop the mast. The spreaders then rest comfortably on the lifelines without generating too much tension on them.

Yep, Harry, I do exactly the same. I have my lifelines set up with an over-centering toggle so they can be quickly slackened or tightened.

"over centering toggle". Hmm, what are those? Could you provide a link or supplier & p/n?

I use a quickpin in the standard adjusters. Cheap and works fine.
