Rideau Canal - Some Visuals for the V17 Owners

Post by ricklee_v17 »

Just got back last week from cruising for a couple of weeks on the Rideau Canal in Ontario. I kinda geeked out a little while I was out there and put together some of the footage from the trip. Thought I might share it with the other V17 people or anyone who might be interested in the Rideau.

Also, you might notice some nasty stains on my sails. They were there when I got the boat. They are the original sails and I could use some advice on cleaning them!

Thanks,

Rick

Cool,

These early ventures are great little boats that can be had for a song. Your 17 looks very much like our first venture, a 1970 V-21.

Here is a link to my page about our Venture.

They are a great way to just get out there and be on the water.

Your boat looks really well done and quite comfortable!

I have been seriously considering upgrading to a 21 or 22. My main concern is that I can't even sit up straight in my little V17 (I am 6'4". I have only had it on one cruise for several nights and it sleeps ok. I don't need to stand up straight but I would really like to sit up straight at least.

I never really intended to use it as more than a daysailor with the occasional overnight, but now, of course, several months later, I have the cruising bug and a serious case of "2-foot-itis" but in my case its "4-5-foot-itis".

Thinking of doing this before I sink any more dough into the V17 (i.e. swim ladder, hand rails, restoring the interior, etc).

Any thoughts on this phenomenon?

Thanks,

Rick
