I noticed that the February Sails magazine does not have the usual Macgregor ad.

OK, this thread is headed off to "Pub" land, or at least part of it is. I'm going to split off the bit where we started going into the CA stuff. It's gone off-topic to a great extent.
Please carry on discussing the cessation of Mac production and the new Tattoos here.
Those who wish to discuss the Great State of California may go here:

Gee - I knew MacGregor was closing up and the new boats were to be made in Florida - but no one said the impact was such that clan MacGregor was getting a new tartan! Perhaps with some pink in it to honor the flamingos?
MacGregor tartan

Hmm. That's an interesting slip Kevin.
The first thought that crossed my mind when I first heard the name "Tattoo" Yachts was the similarity to the premium name Tartan Yachts. But any thoughts that there was an attempt to ride on the backs of another brand name were put to rest when I saw how much different the Tattoo brand logo was from the Tartan graphic.

Florida, place to Build,Sail all Year Long.
25 years here and only been back to my birth place and family in Cape Cod once 12 years ago.
Want to Trailer my boat up there for a 4 mo. cruise but Trailer at 8.6 ft. wide won't get thru 2 States and must have brakes on both axels.
Sailing the Cape,Nantucket, Marthards Vinyard and Elizibith Islands once again is still a dream.

Dave:
I never thought about checking the state law specifics on the trailer, I thought our trailers were small enough for all 50 states. Silly me

I did modify my trailer and added an extra axel, but I only used the original setup brake system and did not convert it to dual brakes. I suspect no one would actually know that unless you're in an accident, but what are they going to do haul you off to jail
Chris.

Dave, are you sure you cannot drive a trailer thru a state when it is legal in the state it is registered in? Seems if you cannot, this would be a state restriction on interstate commerce as in against federal law (I believe only the Feds can regulate interstate travel/commerce.

Vehicles up to 8-1/2 ft (102 in) are legal on the interstate highway system, regardless of the state. I believe there can be some restrictions on state routes, but states have to provide a network of highways in compliance with a federal law passed in the early 80's. States can restrict how far from the highway you're allowed to go, though they have to allow for access to those highways.
Brakes are a state thing, and what's allowed in one state may not be allowed in another, just like state bridge laws for axle load and spacing.
