I did not have time to really check it out in depth but I do suspect a fitting, perhaps on the motor or maybe the filter may have had something to do with this. The hose between motor and filter is brand new, so maybe tank to filter hose has an issue. I just pulled the tank and ran off but I’ll be driving past her on the way home tomorrow from Lexington and may be able to swing over and scope it out under the guise of taking my wife and daughter to the beach for an hour or two

Hi TheLandLady!
Great trip for you!
Glad you had a surprisingly smooth trip through Alabama…for the longest time that wasn’t the case but they have been using their recent infrastructure funds over the past year or so to fix things up. (Last time I drove through that region is was a bit of a moonscape dexterity drill hauling a 30 foot travel trailer…
)
Great news on the slip!
Sorry about the fuel leak…
Do you have a newer fuel tank?
The newer tank caps will only provide a “vacuum” break vent for the tank.
They won’t vent a pressure buildup in the tank from the evaporating fuel… it was an EPA thing to reduce fuel vapor discharge.
Great idea for that aspect…not so great for when the tank is left connected to the engine.
The pressure built up and the fuel was pushed up the siphon line into the old Tohatsu carbs and then dribbled out into the engine well as the engine was tilted up…then out the drain… not a good thing!
We were fortunate in catching it early.
Our fix was to add a fuel tank selector/shutoff valve.
That way the pressurized fuel didn’t go directly to the engine.
That was our experience when we upgraded to new 12 gallon tanks.
Best Regards
