Get a quote from mayagency com before you buy anything.
They beat everyone around and online even progressive. Not sure if they insure outside of the US though
Tell them Wayne sent you, won't get you anything but tell 'em anyway

I wouldn't let Allstate insure a conservative's boat even if he voted for Bush twice.

I just got a copy of my homeowners policy from that has my boat insured. These are most of the highlights, does anyone see any weaknesses when compared to Boat US, or other policies etc.
20K coverage for $250 annually with $500 deductible
Zero deductible for total loss
-Will not cover damage from any pollutants or claims from me discharging any.
- Will pay completely for partial losses, only depreciating fabric, outboard motor, sails, tenders
- Insures trailer
-Insures Auxilary equipment while afloat up to 15% of total policy
-up to $500 of personal property per claim
- Will not pay for Freezing, Ice damage while afloat, or damage while racing
-Liability: up to max of my homeowners policy
_ Medical payments to others $1000
- Uninsured boat coverage $5000

What about liability? My marina requires at least $1,000,000 in liability insurance.

Well I still would not recommend Allstate. Your entitled to your political opinion and shouldn't be penalized for it.

That's a TAD HIGH!!!! I don't know if that much liability insurance makes THAT much of a difference in premium, but if it does, you and your slip neighbors should get together and see what other marinas in your area require, and if it's lower, present that fact to your marina operator - - - believe me, in this economy, he does not want to face the loss of several slips at once. You don't have to threaten him, just ask why his requirement is so high - - - he'll get the message.

It probably is high...but it's the only marina on this lake in the city, a 2 minute drive from my house, so any threat to leave would be a bluff!
And you're right. I don't think the premium would change much for lower liability.

Okay, my insurance agent has given me some quotes on all aspects of insurance for the 1998 MacGregor X I plan to buy, what she requires, and it looks like it will be very affordable added to my homeowners insurance policy.
She suggests that my bill of sale break out the price of the boat, trailer and engine separately.
I'm not looking for the "last word" on this, but what would a reasonable value be to place on a 10-year-old Mac trailer in good condition and a 10-year-old Mercury "Marine" 50 hp motor also in good condition?
In other words, if I had to replace the trailer and motor with something used and good condition, for what amount should I insure each? Suggestions welcome of rough fair market value.

Won't this be a major flaw. After all, Why did you buy a Macgregor?

I didn't notice anybody from Florida list their policy, but I'm paying $594/year in Miami for $10k of coverage and $300k of liability.

I have Progressive insurance (which I got through USAA...which is my auto/home insurance). I do not have the policy here...it is with my boat in Jacksonville. But I am pretty sure I was paying less than $350 for 25K replacement and the other normal insurance things.
Right now I am only paying $230/year since they know I am not actually sailing it and it is sitting in dry storage.
