right off the Mac web site:
"POWERING AND WATERSKIING: With the 60 horsepower outboard, the 26 will go about 22 mph. It will easily pull a water-skier. This adds one more bit of fun to the voyage. It will actually pull most adults at high enough speeds to create some real excitement. (Forget about pulling a crowd.) This picture was taken just off the California coastline...
We limited the engine size to 60 hp for a number of reasons. An electric start 60 hp motor provides lots of speed, yet it is light enough so that sailing performance is not compromised. It is about the largest engine that can be started by hand, a nice feature if your battery goes dead. Also, the heavier, higher horsepower engines really eat up gas...."

Re: Evinrude 60 Etec
I love our
, but you truly can't believe everything you read on the official MacGregor web site. Such as:
or:AS AN OPTION, THERE IS A LARGE ICE CHEST UNDER THE NEW REAR DINETTE SEAT
or, my personal favoriteA VERY LARGE RACING SPINNAKER IS NOW AVAILABLE, MOUNTED ON A REMOVABLE BOW SPRITE.
I wonder when the web site text was updated to 60 hp? I'm quite sure that it used to read 50 hp - and I know the owner's manual that came with mine states, on page 18, "The boat is designed for an outboard motor of no more than 50 horsepower. Do not use a larger engine."One person can raise the mast, launch the boat and sail away in 10 to 15 minutes.

Re: Evinrude 60 Etec
I can get 20MPH+ a little on my loaded 2006 M with my 60 E-Tec under good conditions but I agree that 30 is a typo.

Re: Evinrude 60 Etec
in an article camparing the M to the new Hunter EDGE:
"...The MacGregor carries significantly more fuel – 24 gallons vs. 6 gallons – than the Edge, though motoring speeds seem to be comparable. The MacGregor specifications say the boat can reach 22 MPH with a 60 HP engine (odd because the boat is only rated for a 50 HP engine)."

Re: Evinrude 60 Etec
To clarify
1 You can order a new M from Macgregor with a Macgregor installed Evinrude engine - this is a recent (2007) development
2 If you want a warranty letter from Macgregor authorising a 70 HP installation you wont get one. Anyone who has one please feel free to rebut.
3 If you want to understand your warranty status for a >50 HP on a new M, I suggest you call Macgregor directly before you buy.
Edited for grammar
