There are several mods for the vent. A search of the Mac Mods section, using proper terms will work. ~Rich

Also try searching the Forum for detailed discussions. Use the phrase passive ballast vent.
Use 'Advanced Search' to search on "Topic Titles only" and find one comprehensive thread.
Then search for "Post subjects and message text" to find a dozen other threads.
Generic products can accomplish this mod.

If you tighten those two bolts that secure the ladder at the base of the companionway, it will stay up all by itself...

My 2001 X has the ladder to the floor and the air vent in a cup under the aft end of the v-berth. I recall reading that configuration also locates the C/G of the filled ballast tank further forward to compensate for the weight added on the aft end of the boat by the newer 4 stroke motors, which are heavier than the early 50 hp 2 str Tohatsu motors used onthe first years of the X....to my mind a more significant improvement than the ladder configuration change. You know you're right! Tightened the bolts, and the ladder stays put! PO shoulda read this forum more.

I owned a 1997 which I bought used in 1998. less than 4 hours in the water. I thought the water ballast system was a pain in the butt. I had owned a Mac 26D for 10 years and was not happy with the new model mac .

I went to the Cleveland boat show in Feb 2000 with the intentions of buying a new sailboat or try buying my old 26D back. While there I noticed that Macgregor had improved the . Roger Macgregor improved all the things I though was wrong with the boat. I ended up buying a 2000.It still doesnt sail as well as a traditional sailboat, but once your spoiled by a 50 hp motor itts hard to go back.

if anyone is in the market for a used 26x, avoid the first 3 years models, with that stupid valve system under the step.

it´s not a matter of time or hurry but I´d like to avoid being forced in the cabin and waiting for the waterlevel to raise

I understand the inspiration for mods.
Also, while I usually rig on the water, I let the ballast fill up while stepping the mast.
