One of the best reasons to own a Mac is that if a hurricane is coming or just bad weather, you can put it on the trailer and get the heck out of there. I was reading in the paper that after Hurricane IKE there are over 1,000 boats that need to be removed from high ground. Most of them are wrecked. It is quite a problem.
Another reason is that here in Socal there are not enough slips. The Alamaitos Marina has for the past 4 years allowed temp boats in for a few months at a time. You have to remove your boat after that. With the Mac , it's no problem. I just pull out and go back in when I can.
IN Catalina, in the Mac, we can tie up in the first row where it is the calmest. You have to pull up your keel to get in that close sometimes depending on the tide.
In the NorthWest, small slips are the easiest to get for the night. I never had a problem getting an overnight slip in Friday Harbor in San Juan Island or on Orca Island. The Gulf Islands are the same way. It's the large slips that are hard to get for the night.
With the price of boats going up because of boats being made of oil products, I am keeping my Mac for a long time.
I saw that M's cost $23,000 now. That's up a lot. I could probably sell my Mac and get my money back.

Hello,
I love hearing about your love affairs with your boats. This is the first year since 1995 our boat did not get out. We went sailing on a charter in July but I really miss sailing / working on our Mac.

Landlocked in the northern prairies. No moorage. Scant dock space.
Maybe three decent months of sailing weather a year.
Good lake sailing 2 hours in three directions. Okanagan eight hours away.
I don't know if I 'love my mac', but 158 nautical miles this season
and counting tells me we're certainly going steady..
