Greg,
That looks like a great fix. I usually just tie one of the lines to it to keep it out of my way. But then I don't raise it up very often.

Bungee. One hook on ladder side pipe. Other hook bent open enuf to fit over the guide rail for the sliding hatch cover. Bungee length selected to hold ladder up.

Remember the fast-pin and raising mods are not mutually exclusive, so you can have it both ways, you know...
a swing up ladder mod that gets it out of the way fast, as well as the slower but completely removable ladder mod, for better access ie. cleaning out the storage or berth area back there.

Each time the tubes collapse a little more, each time it's really tight when I first tighten it, but then gets a little looser each time I fold it up until once again it falls down on its own. If I keep doing this, eventually something will break.
I was feeling real smug about tightening ours and it holding up last year, but now it's falling again. Rather than keep compressing it every year, it looks like I need to come up with a hook. Will post something in the Mods Pages when I do. Maybe I'll just hammer something into the tube ends to keep it from compressing.

I don't have the ladder on my boat, but how about a couple of magnets?

One of the reasons I shimmed the ladder brackets out so that it will stand up vertical was that 2 of the kids sleep in the aft berth and with the ladder straight up, there is still access to the head.
Also if the ladder is removed and someone is in the cockpit and enters the cabin, there is the possibility they won't notice the ladder isn't installed. When it stands upright, it is apparent.
