I've always thought that the old wives tale that "It's unlucky to change the name of a boat" was started by old wives that didn't want the boat named after the new wife, or am I being a tad sarcastic.

"Davy Jones" doesn't like to do paperwork. You wouldn't like to make him mad would you? :D

Commercial boats are sometimes renamed when they are sold to other companies. A new owner should be able to rename his boat. It's all superstition. If you're in the least bit superstitious and like to sail on the edge, challenging the elements, don't change the name of the boat.

water ballast isn't so slick when six inches of it is sloshing side to side around your feet..
And darn dangerous to boot....(capsize hazard)
