How does the week of July 6th look for everyone? I'd have to decide if I want to sail or drive. It really depends on the location and weather.

If I drive, I’d probably go to Sandy Point state park with 22 boat ramps and hundreds of trailer parking spots - it's on the western shore of the bay. http://www.dnr.state.md.us/publiclands/ ... point.html


I don't want the summer to pass without trying to make this work.

Sandy Point is a short sail across the bay for us... We'll be there!

Sounds great to me! That's about 10 nm north of my home port. I believe it would be a great gathering place, by boat or by trailer.

(For those who don't know, Sandy Point State Park is at the west end of the Bay Bridge)

July 6th is good, Rhode River has some protected water behind one of the islands. Fairlee Creek has a nice long beach to walk and protected water inside the Creek it self.
Looking foward to see all the different mods and setups on the boats!

OK, so Ray and I are thinking of coming down for at least the weekend in each of our boats... but we need more info...

- Where, exactly, should we plan to meet up, if we arrive on Saturday?
- Can we agree on a common VHF channel which the group will monitor and via which we can communicate?
- Who's taking the lead in organising this event?

Three from Pennsylvania. Where is everyone from the Chesapeake Bay area This could yet happen guys We just need someone from the area to take control. Sandy Point State Park sounds like a good place to start. It's real close to Annapolis, and allows those coming from the north to easily by-pass I-95 and save time.

We'll be there the weekend of July 11th. We're out of Cadle Creek which is right off the Rhode River, south of the Annapolis - actually in Mayo - so we'll motor up to Sandy Point. There are a couple of nice little coves on the Rhode River that might work for overnight if anyone's interested. We're open to all ideas - except out in the channel, that is. Those are some pretty big ships passing in the night there....Fun to go around in the daylight hours, though.

I'm leaning that way, Ray. Its a long haul and we have family health issues to work around.

Here's the maps for Sandy Point the Rhode river and thefull area with driving direction (google doesn't offer boat directions ), as Sea Dreamer said we'll be there in either case. I'll leave it to better minds than ours to decide on which will work out best. Both offer some great sailing.

A couple of points though on both, Sandy Point means rt 50E, with beach traffic on a Saturday morning, be prepaired for traffic starting Friday afternoon , but once you get through the launching seems to be pretty good and direct access to the Bay.

In the Rhode River area there area some great sheltered coves and beaches, sailing out to the bay in the Rhode and West Rivers. Luanching is not as good. At Casa Rio $15 for launch but parking can be a tight, some waiting as there is only the one ramp.

There are other marinias around that may offer better parking. I know up the South River at the rt 2 bridge there is plenty of parking and 5 miles down to the Bay, on the way you'll pass London Town, a colonial era tavern, that is nice to tour.
