Sounds like my quest for a nice X last summer - I saw one at Baltimore that looked right but the "accessories" didn't work (autopilot, depth finder, the stereo amplifier that a previous owner had installed) - and had no paperwork for any of it. "Lemme think about it...." :|

Two weeks later I saw an X in south-central Virginia, for less ... and the seller had bought it new in 1999. I drove 300 miles to see it, and I brought my checkbook ... Everything worked, except the CD-player, and Alex had all the manuals with him. He traded the title for my check, and kept physical possession of the boat until the check cleared. Next weekend, I brought the Bossa Nova back home, and I continue to be pleased with her ...

THERE IS ALWAYS GOING TO BE ANOTHER "GREAT DEAL".

Thanks for the support everyone. We told my folks as soon as we got home from the airport. My dad has been cackling non stop ever since. They brought some home movies from when my brothers and sister were all younger. It's a little scary. Half the videos are filled with at least one of us with a really noisy toy or yelling "daddy, daddy, daddy, daddy, daddy, look at me, look at me, look at me, why aren't you looking at me..." :|

Congrats on the new kiddo! I hope you have a healthy and happy little young'un, and many years of playing and learning for all of you.

But as to the boat... don't abandon it as a lost cause... you can still sell the idea to the Admiral... after all, a gently rocking boat makes a really nice place to bed-down a little one... the go right to sleep. Think of it as a really luxurious crib.

It's true. The aft berth makes a great playpen. Get 'em started early the better.

Yeah right. The Admiral is already on board. She was more POed about loosing the boat than me. Soon enough. My priorities are changing a bit but a boat is still on the horizon. Some of my best memories were out on or 22ft something or another sailboat with my dad. Went through a couple of snow storms and heavy weather that made me feel like I was the greatest "Captain" around.
