All the info above is very interesting and probably right on. I actually talked to people at Macgregor some years ago. They stated that the speed restriction was placed on the the original boats 95-98 because of the aluminium rudder brackets. They found they could actually break the brackets at a higher speed. 99 and above were changed to steel and that seemed to solve the problem. As an added liability factor they left the speed restriction on the newer boats. The lift created by a full centerboard is the reason for that speed restriction. As for the left turn. All I can think of is that maybe that happens because of the adjustable skeg used on outboard motors to offset the torque and prop walk factor. It would seem however that given the size of the skeg it would hardly be so.
