never had a problem acquiring satellites in the cabin with the internal antenna of my garminII+. one wire less to mess with.

I have never been able to receive satellites from inside the cabin with the built in antennas, with either my GPSMAP176C or Geko II backup. Similarly, neither works in the car unless the GPS has line of sight to the sky through the windshield or side windows.

You can always try it out with the standard antenna, then add an external antenna later if you need it.

hey chip, do you have a stainless steel cabin top? or are we in old europe closer to the sky :wink: ?

No stainless in the cabintop that I'm aware of, so it must be the other thing. :D
