You can get a slip for a few days or weeks at Alamitos Bay or Downtown Long Beach by contacting the Harbor Master office. That's about 30 miles north of Newport. Other then Newport (a high priced PITA), your next closest choice is Dana Point to the south.Rolf wrote:Hello Tom and Frank (Cal locals),
Next trip looks like a jaunt down the coast to Newport and Laguna(any ideas where to find a slip?).

Re: post shakedown update
Thanks DClark. Dana Point seems too be the logical place for me to go -- Long Beach is too close (4 miles! I used to live there as well). Hope to have the balls for a Ensenada trip one day (wife an kid not good sports yet), maybe at least another of your Catalina rendevouzs with BK, Steve, Bob T, etc..
Getting A good digital camera for Christmas, will post pics then. What you need to see to really appreciate the transom fit is a shot from directly behind the Mac with the motor aimed directly forward ( Randy Moon are you game for more pics?)
4 stroke 2 stroke, apples oranges. The only thing new I can add is the 310 pounds off back balances the boat perfectly for powering with the mast-- it feels like its not there, even in sharp turns (believe me I tried). Might even feel like too much of a hot rod if I were to remove the mast -- that means it is a "true powersailor". I didn't expect the slight extra weight(100 pounds) to be a plus, but it is to me.
If any of you could catch a ride and drive my, Billy's, or Bob and Mark's boats, you would feel as tho your 50s were the equivelent of a 4 cylinder in Suburban. It works, but not practically. Not trying to knock the decisions people made to get 50s ( I was one too!), but bring more of you over to as Billy said "the Dark Side".
Billy by way I have a 15 inch prop, higer piched. One more thing, lots of stares and questions from people with nice power boats during my "speed trials". They went out of their ways to approach me and ask questions about "that sailboat that goes so fast". The Mac is no more Rodney Dangerfield(RIP) with the 90!
