manufactuers have hull and blister guarrenties If Rodger can not back the craftsmanship of his product then be honest and state this boat does not have a warrenty It is unfinished. The buyer will need to apply a barrier coat and anti fouling paint to the bottom. The black art deco faux windows will need some kind of UV coating in a month's time otherwise they will fade to gray. I just accept the fact that for the money this boat is a good start. The owner has to tweak this craft to get it to be what each of us want it to be.
You must have got some dodgy windows! My 4 year old M sat on a Sunshine coast mooring for a year and otherwise lives in the Australian sun and the black windows are still like new (when the boat gets a wash anyway) :!:

I'm sure boats from all the other brands get some damage at the factory and in transit and attempts are made to cover it up. Aggreed, that if the repair is obvious, the buyer should certainly demand it be at least repaired properly. I wouldnt expect a trailer boat to be supplied with antifoul though.

I dont see the Mac as a "good start". I see it as a boat that keeps my whole family happy as it can do everything, is more comfortable to cruise in than virtually all other trailer yachts (My family wouldnt even overnight with me in my last trailer sailer LOL).

Got a fly, in the morning we sail for the magnificent Peel Island for a coupla days -- ah life is good 8)

The "faux windows" being referred to are not the plexi windows, ( faux is French, and common English usage, meaning false,) but the black gel-coated deck band painted around the windows, which will fade to a chalky gray in a few months and look tired. The best looking MacX I have ever seen was painted all white around the windows to match the rest of the hull, and the windows have a very Euro look. This, and a darker gray paint below the hull wave break line to make the boat look longer and less freeboardly would be a winning cosmetic improvement on the X.

An American giving an Australian an English lesson in French. I like it! Talking English language, hey at least we didn’t change the spelling in everything matey :P

I thought the writer was insinuating a kind of ersatz quality in the Perspex compared to other boats, didn’t catch on that he was talking about the racoon stripe. Agreed, the black gel coat is a bad idea and I get sick of waxing it every 4 or 5 weeks! The boat does look better without it too!

Re. Racoon stripe. My Admiral called it sunglasses, on the boat, but I like the "racoon stripe" moniker better.

The owner of that painted all-white Mac wrote in his original post ( somewhere on the forum ) that he had an automotive paint shop mix the color to match the Mac, and it required some red in the white to get the color right. ( colour ? )

Anyone who is faster/better with Photoshop is invited to combine the schemes of those two photos to show a Mac with gray (grey) band below the wave-breaker line ( ? what is that really called ) and the racoon stripe painted over in white.

The simplest solution to fading is awlgrip. I intend to have the hull and strips awlgripped as soon as possible. Thats why i am not that bent by the damage. It will be gone once i do that and glass the hull to deck joint. Larger projects for on down the road.
Lol even new boats are work. But i love it so far, and would always have the stripe. I think they are part of the look, like those tailfins on cars of yesteryear.
