I noticed that no reply on this question mentioned the
roller main, did I miss it or does this make no difference

Nobody addresses this but it is a good question. If the roller main is enclosed inside of the boom then a boomkicker would work since the boom itself doesn't roll. When taking down I roll my main onto the boom, as I have it set up to swivel at bolth ends, held up by the topping lift at the aft end and the mast at the fore end, a boomkicker would not work for me.
