Re: 12 Gallon tank
My guages have seemed to held up, i.e. they still work. But I put in a fuel totalizer (actually counts each drop of fuel used) which interfaces to my GPS. This way I get a constant readout of hour many miles I can go till empty, and/or time till empty. I plan on putting a post in the MOD area in the next few week that details the installation.

Re: 12 Gallon tank
I have a Garmin GMI 10 that interfaces with my Honda. It counts down the gallons remaining in the tanks. I just have to remember to tell it when I add fuel. But I put in a fuel totalizer (actually counts each drop of fuel used) which interfaces to my GPS. There's no rub on either of my tanks between the right-angle adapter and the laserette lid. I've been full to the brim on my starboard side since new (six months) as i've yet to use a tank. In fact, my port tank is compressed in due to vacuum. San Diego is not hot generally however, so perhaps I'm not seeing the expansion?
Your tank compressed because you didn't keep your valve open 1/4 to 1/2 turn, compression will destroy your FUEL Gauge. The heat from the Sun (even under your seat) will compress the tanks depending on how much fuel remains in the tanks... the less fuel the tank has the more compression & the more damage to your fuel gauge.

Re: 12 Gallon tank
Personally, I really like the six gallon tanks. I can lift and move them easily; 12 ga would be too heavy. We can save $$ by filling them away from the Marina. However, I don't like the gauges, both of which aren't accurate or dependable.
Don't see any significant advantage of two twelves over four sixes? . . . To each his own.

I agree - they are way to heavy to move on or off of the boat, especially on the trailer but two sixes won't fit under the cockpit seat and storing fuel below is dangerous.mika wrote:Personally, I really like the six gallon tanks. Are we comjparing apples to apples?
The Moeller Neptune 6-gallon tanks are 10.5" wide and do fit in under the 26X cockpit seat.

Re: 12 Gallon tank
If you are in a slip full time and get your fuel from a fuel dock like I did - - - then 12 gallon tanks are definately preferable.

Also preferable if you pull trailered into a truck stop and fill up the tanks without removing them as I do.

Re: 12 Gallon tank
when people post on the savings...how much gas are you guys using??
My marina charges 4.30 per gallon on the Hudson, while stations are about 3.90 in NY.
thats 4 bucks a tank - but since I barely use 3 tanks a season, its kind of in the noise of the 120-150 bucks I burn in the truck taking the boat to the Cape...
