If you price out the Mast 28 with motor and absolutely necessary options you find yourself in the high 50's. I wonder how much the Mast 28 would cost if it were made here in the good ol' USA? After all, if the VAT and unfortunate exhange rate were eliminated, we would have a nicely priced upgrade to the Mac.

I use that term regularly- it is an important factor in determining visual scenes using night vision devices that use ambient lighting (the near infrared spectrum- standard night vision goggles that amplify light), more so for aviators than people on the ground as we can see the sun over the horizon from higher altitudes just after sunset, takes a bit longer to dissapear from 30k feet. While being referred to as a "whiner" is not what I would prefer to be called, especially since I have always tried to post things that are helpful to other owners, please recognize as the business community has, that having a base of discerning, demanding customers is vitally important to being competitive in global markets.

Whiners was not my term, it was coined by Rolf in his original post.

I'm making an observation that at this time, Roger doesn't much care what existing Mac owners "demand or discern", because we are not his target market. Single model, basic boat, low money for first time owners or those moving up from a smaller boat. As long as he continues to provide good value for that money he will continue to sell boats. It's a conservative business model, but he's been doing it for quite a few years and it seems to have served him well. He's still here, while a good number of his original competitors are gone. It's pretty hard to argue with this level of success.

In fact, it's pretty certain Roger would argue that the M is exactly what many were asking for: a better sailing boat. Otherwise, he'd still be selling the X with some minor "upgrades", as a lot of his "discerning and demanding" existing customers on this board were suggesting.

Your mention of global markets is interesting, because as nearly as I can tell, and based on previous comments on other threads of this board, it appears Roger has very little (nothing?) to do with "global" sales of Macs, at least nothing outside North America. This market is being filled by a number of internationally focused dealers without participation from Roger. There was a discussion some years ago concerning the fact that dealers were doing the necessary work to attain CE certification, without factory participation. Does anyone know if this has changed?

Sorry Chip if I over-reacted. Rolf's post was very light and breezy and not at all offensive. Seemed like you were venting at me or the board that we were foolish to have and express opinions regarding the boat and that somehow you had special knowledge that our opinions were of no interest or value to Macgregor and that that was a good thing because he is still in business. Not very constructive or helpful to the topic which was a lighthearted discussion of what we would like to see in a new boat model.

Macgregor makes a boat that is for sale in international markets. I'm not sure how you see this as not participating in the global marketplace.

Yes, that's the one Moe. But Preferably without the daggerboard for me, I stick to the old X centerboard. Maybe also extend it to 28 foot, I mean if the Mast28 is still traillerable, why not extend the Mac too.
And with the galley slided backwards make the extra seat sort of flip/flop, chart table on one side, seat on the other side.

Pouw, I wholeheartedly agree a swinging centerboard, and this below, would be much better.



I just think it's going to take Roger two versions to get back to where the boat should be. I don't think he's going to give up his daggerboard so easily!

He at least needs to wait until many folks forget about him saying that a dagger board is the way to go before he goes back, or he will catch hull. Like his famous words about carpeted walls!!!!!
