I hadn't sailed much either, and I still get white knuckled when the boat heels more than I would like -- I'm working on it. I just had this sense that I would like it, and after taking a sailing class last year, I knew it was for me. Buying the Mac (25) and motoring it south then sailing it this season has hooked me for sure. And when I first took the tiller, I was feeling pretty good....

After i bought our M, I managed to convince a member on this board to take me out while i was down south, and I'm very glad he did. We went out on what was supposed to be 15kt day but all morning nothing happened and the sails just fluttered about, then all of a sudden boom 15kt just like they callled for, and right over to 45 then settled in at thirty. if I hadn't experienced that i would have been in for a shock when it did. now i don't get alarmed or really start looking for the main sheet until the clino maxes out. These boats can take quite a gust, but as I found out this year it's not good to continually sail in those conditions as I've managed to blow out and tear my main

I picked up mine two years ago this month at Kearney, NE. From the first moment they opened the maintenance bay door and I saw my boat, I was utterly smitten. As our adventures unfold and we grow with this remarkable boat--though it doesn't seem possible--my love affair with it grows every time I take her out!
I keep a blog and videos which highlight our adventures and growth as sailors as we learned to trust our boat! It is my happy place during winter but also answers your questions.
I am fortunate, my wife actually enjoys a good heel under sail! As a matter of fact, the last time we were out, we were heeled about 40 degrees under full sail in 15mph wind and having a blast when a gust hit us and we went over extremely far. I was busy with steering as she rounded up and I temporarily lost steerage. My wife just laughed and said that the inclinometer pegged at 50 degrees but she didn't know how far we went over.

Very much enjoyed your trip on the Lake of the Ozarks, as well as your trip to Florida and the ocean. Thanks for posting links to this. Makes me want to call John and finalize the deal. John seems to be a nice guy.
