In order to enjoy year round sailing all Gary would have to do is travel ~600 miles south to Lake Texoma.

Better yet, travel an additional 400 miles and sail in the Gulf of Mexico.

We enjoy year round sailing here in Central Texas. I grew up in the midwest, but would have a hard time surviving those winters again...

My winterization regimen is to top off the gas and oil and stock up on beer.

:(

I am SO ready to not be up here any more, and wouldn't if my kids weren't going to college up here. I'm also not ready to sell their childhood home out from under them yet. I will miss the finger lakes, Erie Canal, and Great Lakes though. The whole reason I downsized to the :macx: was to take advantage of the finger lakes and canal in addition to the Great Lakes, after all. :D

But sailing in the south looks better every year, at least from up here. :)

Maybe a spring break location before the kids show up and spoil everything.

Yeah, I spent 10 years in New England, too, so I know cold, and I don't plan to deal with that much cold ever again!

Well you are one step closer to The warm FL. with the Manitee , they get cold to and go to the power plants for warmth, just like the Snow Birds do.
Manitees can only live in waters above 61 degrees and can tolorate temps to 58 degrees for only a few days.
Right now they are grouped togeather in large numbers around the Cistren Basin at Fort Myers Power Plant and tho there is no food source they survive.

You guys lived in Colorado and the east coast and you think you know COLD??? :D :D
Try -25F!! That's northern Wisconsin in the winter!! The snow squeeks when you walk on it.
As they say in the U.P. (Michigan's Upper Penninsula) Zero is when we put the shorts away and put on our long pants.
Now we'll hear from northern neighbors.....

Certainly:

Jacksonville Macgregor Get-Together 2009 had 5 Macs.

Jacksonville Macgregor Get-Together 2011 had 13 Macs.

NC Sail Pirate Fest 2011 had 26 boats including 11 Macs.

Us "Right Coasters" like to get together for Mac events. We are planning an Annapolis Gathering and a Charleston Gathering for this year. Plus I am sure there will be another Jax Mac and Pirate Fest.

So hitch up your trailer this coming Spring or Summer and head out to the East Coast.

Cheers,
Jim

I think its in the panhandle of florida or texas...

It's in Pensacola, FL. in June. If you like sailing, sugar white sand beaches, and frendly people, B.E.E.R. is for you.

Having gone to the Lake Havasu pocket cruisers convention the last 2 years I would say it's as close as you can get to Sturgis ..except no topless babes on the boats , no drunkin brawls , no police presence , just a bunch of sailors rubbing elbows, making friends and of course Sailing. Good times. If the economics are right, I will go again this year. :macx:
