M vs M ??

Post by Terry »

I find it incredulous that Roger would show an M vs another M with one gaining over the other. I did see a portion of a video at last years boatshow that showed an M vs an X and I even qestioned the validity of that. I realize that some have watched the video too many times already but perhaps just one more time except this time take note of how many rows of windows each boat has. The M has two rows whereas the x only has one row which I suspect is the case in the video with the white one.
We had our annual races last June at Blaine Harbour and the M & X were neck & neck but those older classics kept on gaining on us. There is no way that a significant difference in speed exists between two Ms two years apart. If they filmed such an event then in IMHO it is pure BS and only serves to undermine Rogers credibilty. I have to see it to believe it.
But then who knows perhaps a really green wet behind the ears first time out non-sailor was in the white boat and a very seasoned sailor in the blue one, that would be believable.

I have seen the DVD and thought the race in question was between a X and M boat and not two M's, but when I get home from this business trip I will give it a second look.

Slightly faster speed? The video clip that was linked in this thread shows the blue boat blasting past the white one (which, I assume, is an X). I can't believe that the M is that much faster and imagine that all other things were not equal. Just my very humble opinion.

I have the video and it is a M smokin a X. If I were a manufacturer trying to entice people to $upgrade$ to a new product, I would show the new product smokin the old product.

Personally, I could care less. I am not out there to set sail speed records and worry about adding .9 knots to the speed. Drinking a brew and enjoying the wind is all I care about. I sleep well at night knowing that my 90 horse will smoke any 50 horse. 8)

For those who care, maybe we need to have a M vs X sailoff and video it.

as it appears to my untrained eye, the camera angle changes quickly to cause the effect / appearance of a drastic difference in speed between the two boats . M's are faster BTW oh well. . . each new boat model should be better than the previous IMHO :) Now . . . .is it only the BLUE HULLED M's that are faster than White Hulled X's????? What if both had BLUE HULL'S?? :P

You know, maybe Michael Moore made the MacGregor video. If that were true, then the X was really faster than the M. "Fahrenheit M."

What's also interesting is that it appears the M is being launched by a Ford Crown Vic, or the Mercury equivalent thereof. IIRC, this latest body style was originally spec'd for 2500 lbs towing, then was quickly lowered to 1500 lbs. Now they're down to 1,000 lbs (is it a coincident they burst into flames when rear-ended?) What's funny is that this has come up on the Whaler forum, that they're insufficient for towing even the smaller Whalers.

Now I am NOT the RV'er you are Moe, but I sure see a LOT of Crown Vicky's and Grand Marq's pulling a Lot of BIG toys down the toll roads in Ill. Better tell all those Ski-Nautic guys they can't being doing that :)

In my experience Mark, the older Mac /Vens are faster than the X as a rule. The M's are aprox as fast as the X's. Qualified by the ability of the skipper as I have dusted both and been dusted by both.

My study should be considered reliable as I have performed repeated analisys of the data while completely saturated in cheap wine. (Makes the mind sharp!!)
