I got the free ipad app and subscribed to the magazine. I like getting mags this way as I don't have a bunch of old magazines laying around taking up space.

The article was nicely written, and seems to convey the good and bad with buying a boat like the Mac. Certainly wasn't snobby or self-righteously proclaiming the Mac as junk.

How about just giving us a quick review of the Article.. maybe a short readers digest version..
if I make it to Borders book store, I can sit there and read it in thier lounge area..

Thanks for providing the link. A nice article that will hopefully finally get rid of some of the misconceptions regarding these boats. Just two points I'd like to rise : When will we finally see some innovations relating to Roger's experience building missiles and are you guys with Ms and Xs really that much older ?

One nerve cranks my Tractor in the print. Keeps refering to Improvements on the M compared to the X.Each boats have qualities for shoal or deep draft and rougher waters.
There range of fuel is off the wall.
I do think the artical gives the Mac. a good coastal cruiser but failed to include all those who went to Bahamas and other deep water cruiseing.

Interesting...the article and the current factory website note the winches have gone back to the Lewmars from those junk Marelon ones from Forespar.....

I helped a new Mac owner set his up 2 weeks ago and I don't remember the name on the winches but they were not all metal like the ones on my 2007.

Excellent article. Not sure what the "sloshing below decks" is about--sounds like people aren't checking to see that the ballast tank is full.

Exactly. That's the only way you *can* get 'sloshing'. RTFM issue.

Or some "sloshed" beer drinkers.

That caught my eye right away, too. I've never heard sloshing below decks, at least not from the ballast.

"Unlike a weighted keel, liquid moves from the centerline toward the lee rail as the boat heels. Some skippers contend the sloshing below deck can be felt in the rudder, making the helm less responsive."

If you only fill the tank half-way, sure it'll slosh, and be rather unsafe under sail. But the tank has a hump where the vent is, so the volume of air left in the tank when it's filled as far as it'll go is pretty puny and wouldn't make a difference. I think the author doesn't really understand water ballasting as it's used in these boats, which shouldn't come as a surprise, as a lot of folks who don't know these boats are in the same boat.

Heh. Yea. The boat ain't going 24 knots with a fifty horse less it's on the trailor driving down the highway. Fact check anyone??
I routinely sail in 20 knots. Yes I reef. Most boats I've owned I've reefed at 28-20 k except my yawl that was 18,000 pounds of half century old fiberglass wood and lead.
A half hour of perusing this website would have caught those errors.
I'm still looking for my factory equipped icebox btw.
