Re: Transom/motor well drain plugged up
I got tired of my M's motor well drain clogging up (and blocking the galley sink drain), so I ran a separate and larger drain directly to the starboard side of the transom.
It's easier to clear if it does get clogged, and the sink drain is easier to unclog. As my project list gets shorter, I may to with a larger sink drain.

Re: Transom/motor well drain plugged up
Know well your frustrations with finding motorwell full of flotsum & jetsom. I solved the problem with a custom cover (see mod I just inserted in Mac Mods).
If anyone interested in installing one I can save you a whole lot of time by mailing you a free template. rick retiree (at) comcast (dot) net.

I got some window screen, rolled it up into a 5 in long tube, and put it part way into the drain. It lets the water drain, and keeps the junk out.

Re: Transom/motor well drain plugged up
Hey Rick,
Just finished cleaning out my transom drain of assorted gunk using a high tech twig. A screen certainly sounds like a good idea.
Couldn't find it in the mods section. What is labelled under?
thanks
Ray

Re: Transom/motor well drain plugged up
I just used this simple plastic "unclogger" along with a garden hose and it worked beautifully!
Now I have to remember to remove the screen before I trailer the boat.

Re: Transom/motor well drain plugged up
If I did that with my
, the cables into the Honda BF50 would bend into a hard 90, if the motor would even tilt all the way up. If anything, the well could stand to extend a little further forward. It's an unfortunate situation, but it is what it is, and I can't do much about it.

Ray, do you have pics of your mod? I'd be interested in seeing them, I don't really see the value of the transom well, either.raycarlson wrote:i disconnected hose, filled well with foam and glassed over the foam, well is now only 3" deep for motor tilt, with a 3/4" holed drilled thru transom for drain like all my previous boats.

I think the transom well is meant for catching dropped "beverage" cans, sunglasses, and fishing weightsI don't really see the value of the transom well, either.
