Nice one Q1! Someone in the past has taken good care of it for you!
- B.

ps. more hp and torque from the motor than before, not even considering that the differential is likely geared more favourably for towing too.

Sure

I look at wheel base
Tow vehicle weight
Hp
Torque
4 wheel drive
Tow rating
etc etc

The Audi Q5 for exapmle has lots of engine choices
Tow rated at 4500

I use this 2.0T with 270 torque at 1750rpm AWD

Pulls the Mac with full ballast up a ramp without breaking a sweat never revving over 2000 rpm and never spins a wheel

I love it

Nice! Looks like a Hyundai Santa Fe. It was most recently Consumer Reports top pick in its category? They blow some others out of the water with the number of standard features, and a looooong warrantee.

Ps. I think I have investigated almost everything out there now... :D

Included in the tow rating is the tow ball rating. The Q5 is rated 200kg on the ball (10% of the tow rating) - much better than most Euro models (being typically 5% of the tow rating) - my old BMX X3 was rated to a piddly 80kg on the ball.
My pretty stock :macm: on trailer with dual batteries, 60HP Etec with 50% fuel load and without any extra bits is approx. 180kg (~400lb) on the tow ball and GTM approx. 1700kg (3750lb). The Gross Trailer Mass (GTM or axle load) at 1700kg gives plenty of scope to add load to the trailer - up the stock axle load rating of 1905kg (4200lb) - and within the 2000kg tow rating of the Q5 - but adding load in front of the trailer axle will load the tow ball pretty quickly till out of spec. In practice this is not a big deal - just be careful loading the trailer up. ie near or to the rear of the axle. This cannot be ignored - an insurance company will always look at any way to avoid paying out a claim - and they know what to look for.

My God 2000rpm to get up the ramp, 2.0L, I wouldn't even consider towing with something like that. I guess that just goes to show the wide range of opinions on all things boats......

There were a few disparaging comments about my hauling the 26M with a old Buick Lesabre with no tie downs on the trailer. I eventually tried the tie downs and enjoy the comfort of a non bouncing boat on the trailer, although I never
mentionned it on this board. I must admit hauling out the boat was clearly a hit and miss thing with the Buick. Thank God for helpful sailers.

Well anyways...as Red Green would say, I'm a man, but I can change, if I have to, I guess.

As well as: And men, remember, if the women don't find you handsome, they should at least find you handy.

Quebec1,

I used to own a 1993 26C in Europe and towed it with a Citroen BX ,1600cc engine (diesel). It was marginal, but did the job. You should see the travel trailers they tow during summer holidays in Europe with their small cars. On one continent it seems to be under-kill, on the other ,overkill. I guess a 6cyl. 2800cc-3500cc engine is perfect for our boats. Those trailer-tires anyway are not made to go +60mph . And accelerating towing a trailer like a Ferrari is not needed either. I tow my presently owned 26X with a Kia minivan , no problems at all pulling out of the water with full ballast tanks. On the highway I’m not even aware I’m pulling a boat...except for the length and width when turning. But then again I will not go faster then 60mph.

Hopefully Quebec see’s your post. Bertrand hasn’t been active in over two years.

Remember, that in the original manual for the :macx: , maybe even the :macm: , I’m guessing, Rodger showed a Ford Taurus as the tow beast.
