While this thread is about X's, it's worth noting that M's run the risk of being swamped if they are run bow-first up onto a steep beach and left. It might not be a fast leak in some less extreme cases, but if you sleep overnight you could have a significant (as in... an accidental “waterbed”) accumulation in the morning.

This is because the effective freeboard at the stern is limited by the height of the top of the steering box on the interior of the boat... unless this has been bushed and sealed, in which case the top of the rudder pivot tube (the axel pipe that the rudder uphaul/downhaul lines run through) will then become the limiting height... unless a funnel, or something similar, has been placed into the top of the tube- then the top of the funnel will dictate the freeboard.
