Winter around Lake Michigan

Let's see, Lions Club fundraiser (beer)+ Wisconsin's long winters+ snowmobiles (sleds)=FUN.
Notice the sled is saved first, then the driver. Good sleds are hard to find.
Pickerel Lake is about 100 miles North of me.

On Lake Winnebago the ice is about 3' thick. The ice fishermen are having a hard time getting their
shanties off the lake before the March 1st deadline as they're frozen into the ice.

The temp this morning was -12F. We set a new record for the number of days below zero in a winter at 49 (with more to come), and we are in 3rd place all time with 23 days in the negative teens.
We live here cuz we really love our 7 days of Summer here.

Yes, it's been a cold winter. Temps again subzero tonight for a while. Hard to imagine we'll be sailing in months.
At least we don't have hurricanes.

We might take a trip up to the lake to see the ice boats. I'm really temped to explore sailing one of those.

After watching the snowmobile drivers play skipping stone across the
water, I came to conclusion, not for me...

Actually that “sport” has its origins in the Niagara area, by a pioneer named Henry Bieda. He did a record water run decades ago, when no one even believed it was possible, and documented it even before Guinness World Records had a category for it. He actually made smoothe large-radius turns in circuits in the Welland canal instead of one straight line, a more difficult trick.

And I bought my last Sea-doo from his son at their powersports business. A remarkable family.
