The Maritime Mobile Radio Station License point has come up in my area before, and I forget the details, but if you stay in Canadian waters you don't need one, but when in US waters you need one issued by Canada (and enforced by US authorities) and it needs to be renewed every year to keep it in effect. Of course, you need your Radio Operator's License in any case to use (transmit) the radio.

seahouse wrote:Q1 as far as I understand it, and I'd sure like to know if I have it wrong, you only have to report to US Customs ONCE. So no other Customs permit is needed, unless you leave the country and come back again.

So when you pass over the border with the boat on the trailer you have then reported to US Customs and been inspected, and therefore you don't need to report again when you launch unless you leave the US (and go to, say, the Bahamas) somewhere and then try to re-enter the US. And, yeah, the fines are high for not doing this, and they do watch.

Hope you have a good one! -B.
My experience was that customs at the US Canada border asked me what was in the boat. I answered the usual stuff they told me to enumerate the usual stuff and let me in. Then I had to get a permit at a Port authority close to where I was docked before leaving the dock. So border customs doesn't really do anything or require anything but the port authority requires all your boat papers to issue a permit for a Canadian boat to sail in US waters.

I told Bob to tell Raphal to shoot any snow birds jumping the front gate,(He told me about that shooting..HAAA) if he is sleeping in the trailer...gators or the cat will get ya.
I don't know if I can make New Years yet as have a trip Jan. 23 to Cape Cod ( Mother going down hill) may have to get a earlier trip up there.
I still run my F150 1999 hauling my boat.
Have a good trip if I don't see you, and give my regards to Bob and Ralphy.

Will be trying out my first long trip with my new to me 2001 Blazer (with new motor, brakes, wheel joints, tires etc) and factory towing package that I picked up for peanuts this summer.

Looking for the best 3 weeks possible. At the moment I am looking at starting at Hollywood Municipale marina (30$ a day) but nowhere to put the trailer. Followed by a stop at SOUTHDADE MARINA ((10$ a day) hope Raphael doesn't shoot my car AGAIN)to drop off trailer and car. Then planning to sail around the keys looking for the best place to stay for a week or so of good times. Also my daughter should be in Miami for a few days in January so thinking of getting her to spent a few days on the boat probably around Key Largo.

Now just wondering where the closest port authority is to get my sailing permit for the USA.

I would not mind meeting up with some of you guys if you are down there between dec 22 and Jan 9th. Also lookin for a good place to stay In Key largo. Actually Bahai and key largo seem to have interesting state parks and snorkeling sounds like fun, but I really like the beach.

Sorry, misread the original post and missed "in Key West". I'm retired military so I use the Navy facilities when we go there. The only commercial ramp that has parking is on Stock Island. I think it is Oceanside if memory serves. Key West City Marina has a ramp and a parking lot that I see lots of rigs and trailers in. It is at the Palm Island Causeway and US 1. I don't know particulars.

Enjoy
